The Sess from X-Play got the chance to interview the authors of the new research book, Grand Theft Childhood. The authors, Doctors Lawrence Kutner and Cheryl Olson, reveal to us a shocking truth: Videogames are not to blame for violent behavior in kids and teens. This research that took place in Grand Theft Childhood lasted several years and was financially backed by the U.S. Department of Justice with the help of over 1250 kids and 500 parents involved in the research.

The results show that there is NO evidence at all that videogames influence violent behavior. Violent crimes in the constantly targeted age range have gone down while videogame playing has risen significantly. The interview also reveals how opposing research that seems to always get mentioned by nut jobs is poorly conducted.

We're also told of an interesting aspect of the Grand Theft Childhood research. Some research was conducted among two groups of boys and the group that DIDN'T play videogames got into more trouble than those who actually played violent videogames.

This video really is some fascinating stuff. There's finally some well-done research and it's BACKED by the U.S. Government. You must watch this video and check out the book if you can.

I've noticed in a few different forums reporting on this that there are a percentage of gamers who think they're witty in pointing out that, while you can't completely blame games for violence you can't completely remove blame from them either. And that sounds very smart and round-minded and all, but what I think they are neglecting to include in that process of thought is that many things may lead to some violence (dating, baseball, heavy metal music to name a few) but those things aren't BLAMED for it. Why? Because as dumb as people are, they realize that there are things out there that can put a small amount of violence in a small amount of people a small amount of the time and to try and ban them all is stupid. I mean, things can, depending on many variables, affect your state of being in varying ways.

The reason why the people who did this study are going to the extreme and saying that there is very little (almost none, as equal to any of the other activities mentioned above) violence truly associated with this hobby is that it has been singled out as a scapegoat (unlike baseball and sex and bruce lee) and is in serious threat of crippling censorship. They are talking LONG TERM DAMAGE here, not getting mad at the halos and punching your pillow.

So to the two-siders out there playing devils advocate: We get it. Games may put a little violence in some one occasionally if the mood is right. You're brilliant. But the same can be said of many things - I personally can't stand leprechauns. They make me physically angry. And every time I try to cook an egg, and I fuck up and pop the yellow in the middle I beat my wife (just kidding, I dont have a wife and if I did, I wouldn't beat her, but I do get mad when I fuck up my eggs).

So parents, let your child play video games or they could turn into raving maniacs

Why don't they tell us something we DON'T know...
And by "WE" I of course mean the gaming community and anyone with a functioning brain.

This is good.

Sad, though, how the asshats who really need to see and learn from this will likely just ignore it and then continue their retarded crusades anyway.

Good news for us gamers that know better!

Studies are done on everything and can bias one side over the other to make people think your "study" is the correct one.

A recent study shows that studies are 50% nonsense and Nike makes you run faster than Adidas.
