Grand Theft Auto IV trailer so close you can taste it (yum, prostitute flavored) photo

With only mere hours before the Grand Theft Auto IV trailer is broadcast to the world, I thought it would be fun to hear any last minute predictions you all have about what you think will be revealed. This is a huge game (arguably the biggest one of the year) and announcements like this don’t come along very often. Let’s make the most of the anticipation, shall we?

Any thoughts about gameplay? Location? Characters? Whoever hits the most nails on the head will win something really great. And by “something really great” I mean the satisfaction of knowing I think you are cool. Which pretty much amounts to nothing.

As a bonus, just because I know all of you are dying to know what Kokomo thinks, hit the jump for my predictions.

Personally, I am guessing a one city structure, as opposed to the three in San Andreas. Since this is the first GTA on the new set of consoles, I am thinking Rockstar will want to focus more on how detailed and rich they can make everything, rather than how big the landscape is. There have been rumors that the game will take place in an international city (Bogotá and Tokyo have been thrown around), but I have a feeling a metropolis similar to New York (or Liberty City) will be the setting. I also wouldn’t be surprised if there is more than one playable main character in the game (maybe even, gasp, a woman). Co-op? Most likely.

So, there you go. Now, when I am proven completely inept, you have specific things to throw back in my face.

Sorry, I've never enjoyed the GTA series. =/

I'm really starting to buy this whole "microsoft is gonna release something epic about GTA IV tonight" theory because it's kinda a coincidence and xbox.com has started counting down to the trailer on the front page and I know GTA IV on 360 is big either way but I don't think they would be quite so proud of it if they didn't have something up their sleeve. But then again microsoft can't keep a secret worth a shit so... And there is always the possibility that microsoft is way overrating the coolness of their announcement tonight and it'll turn out to be exclusive whore armor for the 360 version.

I don't understand why people say they don't like the GTA series. Especially when it's people who LOVE MMOs and RPGs.

JuanoTejano: I'm not saying it ever was a MMO or RPG. But the same concepts are there. Level up the characters, explore big maps, interaction with other characters. And they'd be stupid to not include multiplay this time around which will bring it closer to an MMO type game.
By the way, since the PSP versions of the games have had multiplay, there should be NO reason for this to not have multiplay.

I'm hoping for more than just a co-op GTA a la Crackdown. I'd really like somewhere between 4 - 8 players in one game, maybe with different goals like seeing who can be the biggest bad ass within a certain time limit, or a vigilante mode with other people... you get the idea.

I'm a big fan of open-world sandbox type games. I was always fond of GTA, which probably explains my passion for Saints Row. I hope the game is based in a tropical area personally, like many South American cities (I like the Bogota theory) or perhaps a city like Phoenix or San Diego.
I expect Rockstar to further improve player customization, especially for multiplayer (over and above SR's satisfactory system)... implying that there will be multiplayer modes of some sort. A combination of Crackdown's co-operative and SR's multiplayer would be the coolness. Especially if they manage to improve upon both types.
I doubt it will be an MMO. Seems too complicated, could be wrong.
Perhaps doors and windows will be used for more than wall decoration?
Who knows but either way it's going to be an awesome game.

Grand Theft Election would be some hot shit! You can play as Clinton, Obama, McCain, or Gore. You have to steal to fund your election, but the ultimate heist is stealing the votes to get into the White House.

Actually, that might be kinda boring.

Man, I hope there's a helicopter with a giant magnet on it, and I then I can go pick up a tank, dip the tank in tar, then fly up really high, jump out of the helicopter, throw a molitove cocktail at it so it erupts in fire, than "fly" back into the helicopter, fly to a bridge, and drop the tank and explode the bridge.
Hopefully, when you explode a bridge like in the first GTA, the drivers are too stupid to see the road out and the keep driving through.
Yep, I'm a psycho! WHO WANTS TO SEE MY THWOMP?!

I'm guessing one big city as well. This is namely more because rockstar has to build an entirely new engine from ground up, those the ability to reuse assets in the previous games is more or less null. With next gen, they would more or less have to rebuild all the toolsets, model and rig entirely new things.

I think it is going to be set in Kalamazoo, MI....no? Well, then I would say London or DC (and surrounding areas) You know Baltimore was the murder capital of the US in 2005. So the cops would be used to all the killing and stranglin.

They've scrapped the whole sandbox format... it's going to be a party game & it will be released on the wii first followed by crappy ports to every other console. Use the wiimote to bash cops with their own nightsticks. tap A as fast as you can to snort the longest coke line. Cross over the wiimote & the nunchuck to strangle the hooker etc... fun for the whole fam.

I predict:

GTA IV will be an Xbox 360 exclusive and it'll take place in one city this time- Chicago (GTA style). You'll play the game as a cop who finds his way over to the other side of the thin blue line, and you'll have online play featuring player-created gangs with their own customizable insignias, car types, colors, and online battles will be fought over turf control. Gamers can also play within confined parts of town either alone or in teams in multiple game types including capture the flag-themed matches, escort missions, robbery, and of course deathmatch.

That's all a huge shot in the dark. Now let's see how wrong I am.

Umm . . . Worst franchise ever?

Bad, or Horrible is an oppinion (which should be valued), but "worst franchise ever" puts you in the same realm as the PS Triple guy.

Maybe you're a kid at a daycare, and you can kick down block castles, hit kids in the head with a metal fire truck, get strung out on apple juice, and . . . take . . naps?

murdered family member perhaps and you need revenge
Maybe a city outside the united states(like gta london)maybe somewhere in japan tall buildings and such.with crazy motorcycle gangs.

or
Secret agent assigned to infiltrate a gang but you have to get your street credit up first(campy and played out but still possible)

or
Set in the future flying cars crazy neon crap

Call me a geek, but I'd like to see Rockstar take the series to historical moments of the past, and maybe some future time. We already did the 80's theme (which I loved), and I'm so over the 90's gangster paradise stuff of San Andreas (hated it).

I think it would be cool to do an MMO GTA. Instead of Guilds you'd have gangs and instead of one city make it the whole US. Then you and your friends could do gang wars against other gangs in other states and try to spread your gang through out the US. And as an added bonus make a "blow up Jack Thompson house" quest with the crazy idea someone mentioned earlier about a giant helicopter with a giant magnet dipping a tank in tar and setting it on fire.

That would be awesome and I dont even play GTA, my nieces do though.

Well.. I dare to dream, to completely revitalize the series, they would have to be a lot more realistic. Something In between the Sopranos and Oblivion. A realistic city environment, with interesting NPC's and characters. Interesting Missions as in "you have to set a trap for this character" no "Get to point B in 30 seconds or you´ll get an enema!"

No more "all cars are unlocked, steal any car to get around, beat whores" crap and for crying out load no more "gangstas" and godfather, scarface knock offs, PLEASE we've had our share

But... chances are we get San andreas part 2 with better graphics, co-op online and that stuff.

Lets wait and see.

Thinking along the Things will be Different line that Rockstar has been throwing around:

You can steal an airplane and fly over to entirely different cities. As increased downloadable content as added, additional locations become available to travel to.

Locations outside the US/Western world as being possible choices of the city you are in. i.e. Tokyo/Baghdad/Bangkok/Johannesburg/Istanbul/Beirut

Increased economic activity beyond simply owning self-generating buildings, possibly aspects that involve more micromanagement while still keeping it simple and automated enough to forget about.

New physics engine opens up a large amount of consistent action possibilities that involve a wide variety of NPCs, as opposed to relying on scripted action sequences too much.

Ability to play Good and Evil strands, which each involve evolving and varied story lines based on in game actions.

A lot more talking.... otherwise known as the "MGS Complex", in which each subsequent game, NPC's get a bit more chatty.

Sequences that involve greater repercussions for crimes, Prisons/Prison Breaks, etc.

Also, the addition of a persistent online world is not to far fetched... If they find a way to manage the game as being a primarily solo experience if the player wants it to be.
