Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, rated for PlayStation 3 photo

The ESRB has rated both Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City for PS3 releases. Sony Computer Entertainment America is noted as the publisher, since these games are slated to arrive on the PSN as "PS2 Classics."

We had recently learned that the original Killzone was coming to the PlayStation Network, and this new information indicates that Sony's stepped up its efforts in getting PS2 games in a digital format. Hopefully we'll get some real classics, like the Altered Beast remake, or Shadow the Hedgehog. You know what I'm talkin' about.

In all seriousness, this is cool by me. I quite fancy playing Vice City again.

I also quite fancy playing Vice City again, even if I own it on 3 different formats.

Speaking of "PS2 Classics", and I may be just beating a dead horse here, but is there still any plans for Sony to allow backwards compatibility on the slim models?

Last I heard it was going to come in a firmware update after all currently slated new PS2 games were finished releasing.

But then again Sony is good at not delivering the things people actually want so I've already accepted that the day may never come.

Man, SephirothX, that was well timed!

Zerix does have a point though.

Grand Theft Auto HD collection or no deal. I already own the games but upscale these games to HD with better framerate, anti-aliasing, trophy support, etc. I would definitely shell out some cash.

He does have a point. But I just knew someone would bring it up :D

Its actually kind of pathetic that iPhone gets and updated port and we get PS2 Classics instead. I'm sorry but "PS2 Classics" are blurry, painful ass to look at. Last gen's games do not hold up well when stretched to 720p without some serious work done to them. HD versions are a must. Whoever wrote the code for PS2 emulation needs to be shot.

for people complaining about BC just buy a ps2 you will be much happier plus it will have 100% compatibility with games. I just bought a dreamcast, saturn and a genesis. It's way faster than waiting years for companies deciding to rerelease games you probably already own.

No San Andreas? That one was always my favorite.

Would buy these again if they were HD-ified. I actually tried to go back and play Vice City again about a month ago and was reminded of just how far the visual quality of games has come on the newer generation of hardware. (That is to say -- I didn't end up starting another playthrough)

Hurrah! I too am one of those who already owns Vice City in multiple other formats but will very happily shell out for this. That game still hasn't been beaten (as far as games of that kind go), as far as I'm concerned.

Ah vice city, one of the reasons I couldn't let go of my PS2, GTA 3 not as much. Wonder why they didn't go ahead and add in San Andreas, is GTA5 going to be too similar? Hmmmmm HMMMMM just kidding

Well I just bought vice city used for $5 soooo...... no buy from me. Maybe if my ps2 craps out. But then again it's been running for ten years now so I should be good.

Why are they called PS2 classics? Seems weird to me, considering that they were released on Xbox, too.
If only that meant a re-release on Xbox, too. Maybe I'm missing something.

I also would be so down with playing Vice City again, especially since I just got a PS3 recently. This is awesome news.

DstryrDestroyer: its just what they call the PS2 line on psn. ALL ps2 games go under the "ps2 classics" title.

Although, these game were out for ps2 a long while before xbox got them.

Might Vice City buy if the price is right. Even if the controls aren't perfect, I still got GTA III for iPad at somewhere around $3. I can also download a fully HD-remastered title (Shadow of The Colossus) for $20. Both titles under $10 seems more than fair to me.

I played GTA III and Vice City into oblivion. I still love the games, but yeah, it's going to take an HD remake for me to rebuy them too.

I'd buy Vice City again in a heartbeat if it was an HD upgrade. Otherwise, I'll just pop the original Xbox disc in my 360 and play that if I'm ever feeling the need.

PS2 classics don't automatically mean "exclusive". There are many PsOne classics that are on other systems.

I'm suprised they haven't announced the GTA HD Collection with GTA3, GTA Vice City and GTA Saint Andreas.

Not the biggest fan of these ps2 classics since I can play them on the ps2 I still have and buy most of these games cheaper on disc.

Now if they add functionality to play these on the vita I'm fivking there

@Zerix there having problems getting emulation profiles running since the way the Original Fleet of PS3's did it was by having a compressed PS2 slim as part of the board but when the PS3 got the slim treatment that was one of the first things to go while the rest of the board was slimmed down. They had one at one point that basically made a copy of the disc's iso (as an install) and required the Original Disk to boot it, but I'm not sure why that never materialized, I assume because of the possibility of piracy, that and because they make money this way

I was hoping these would get the HD treatment. Vice City is damn near unplayable with its hazy visuals.

I think Vice City is still the best, just improvements to GTA 3 but still simple. I remember spending a lifetime trying to get 100% with the damn jumps and statues.
