watched some of her older videos, ehh. "OMFG ONE CHARACTER IS KILLED OFF TO ADVANCE THE STORY OF A DIFFERENT CHARACTER!" maybe we should all have stories with characters that don't have any significant motivation...
Scrolled through her blog, watched the one video whose title didn't make me want to punch her in her face, the one on bitorrents if you're wondering. She complained for 3 minutes about how it's all porn ads, because she thought(and was wrong in her assumption that) it was porn because guys like porn.
The ads are porn because bitorrent sites are of shaky legality, and are under constant legal siege by a great number of media distributors. Ad vendors try to sell their space to the greatest number of suppliers of ads as well as sites to host their ads as possible. That severely limits where their ads will show up if their primary clients are porn, and severely limits a bitorrent's potential ad suppliers if the supplier might end up losing hosters if it's linked to something considered by many to be illegal.

There are some seriously narrow-minded folks on this thread... But a few intelligent ones, as well.
To say that women aren't designed from a male power fantasy perspective is to ignore the evolution of games. Almost all big budget games have (more than) a hint of Male Power Fantasy. Tell me that women want to be portrayed ONLY as slinky f*cksticks with no brains.

Not entirely sure I even get whats going to happen here.. But I assume its going to turn into more "oh these women in games have huge breasts" discussion.. The same discussion I think we've been having since Dead or Alive was first released (if someone knows a point prior to that, use that point instead).. Either way, if thats all this turns into, do we really need to have this discussion one more time when I'm sure there's a few hundred of the same thing happening right now across the greater internet?

In the end, society won't let a man wear just anything and get away with it like women can. Can a man wear a skirt? Nope, cuz that's gay and then he gets laughed at or maybe even beaten up. Spartans wore battleskirts made of armor and the Scottish have their kilts yet a man still cannot wear a skirt and not be ridiculed. Hmmmm, a bit odd how some of the MANLIEST of men wore SKIRTS. Not to mention how pants are not designed for a man's testicles like a skirt is. FDR was raised in a skirt as a child too.

The pants on men, skirts on women thing is a completely arbitrary decision made fairly recently. Just like the pink/blue decision. It's not a methodical and societal ingrained notion. And you are perfectly free to wear what ever the hell you want.

i'm not autistic but i am dyslexic and did not do well at school so forgive me in my elocution -
this is how i see it
feminism is a movement strivin to create equal rights for women. so when this process comes to fashion surely if we can all wear whatever we like with no fear of abuse then that equality has been met. i can't see how any feminists would really find concern in that. or that marketin campaigns are not pushin you into bein somethin you do not want to be,or cannot be or even do not want to be associated with. these are not unreasonable things to seek change in.
i have truly enjoyed ms.Sarkeesian's videos...i would have no issue with donatin some money so i can still have access to these films and i cannot see reason why a fair wage to create them is an issue. i can't guess the time needed to properly have an in depth look into the history of the role of female characters in videogames - are we talkin as far back as ant attack here? probably further. this takes time and money. $6000 seems very reasonable to me.
from what films of hers i have watched many are about marketin and entertainment. there seems to be a pretty basic conclusion to many of them. change what you are doin and make it appeal to feminists. but consider that...that comes down to make your media appeal to people who believe in equality.

Pants have been around a lot longer than the USA and have been worn by mostly men throughout history. When women were finally able to wear pants without anyone harassing them for it men didn't get to wear skirts or dresses. Even today people will jeer at you for looking what they think to be homosexual regardless of the person's actual sexuality. That sounds pretty methodical and ingrained to me.
The pink/blue decision was between businesses and was used by the winner. Pants were not chosen for men in a battle between major companies so your point is irrelevant.
I am not free to wear what I want. People's definition of "free" or "freedom" is at massive fault. Freedom does not mean you can get away with anything you want. It means you are free to live as you see fit within the constraints of a society's notions and laws. I wouldn't get hired if I went into a job interview without PANTS or at the very least, shorts if they are casual. I wouldn't likely get a girlfriend if they saw me wearing a dress. They don't make skirts for men in stores so they aren't even gonna fit right if I purchased a female skirt. And who arbitrated that men wear pants and never skirts unlike women?
