He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe for the WIN!

I've always said that the whole sexism in videogames thing has too many talking penises and not enough talking vaginas. I'm sure the penises mean well, but sometimes you need a feminine voice to speak up on the subject.
"men are troped just as easily as women."
I disagree. Women have always been sexulized as objects. They've always been looked at as manufactured doll with no emotinal input to speak of... However, men ~do~ suffer from certain stigmas. What must be understood is that topics like emasculation is totally different than sexisim. Comprehensively we must learn the difference.
That's an idolization of "masculinity." I agree, images like that do hurt males, not only young boys -- but adults as well. The topic of emasculation/masculinity is at play here with great repercussion to the the male psyche. Unfortunately nonone gives a fuck about men -- we have to learn to live with our insecurities because we are "privileged."
Growing up I didn't like the way I looked because the media told me I didn't look the way a man is supposed to look. Sounds familiar?
Hope you're proud of yourselves, you quivering, blubbering man-ginas.
So did you actually read what we said, or are you just in a bad mood today, honey? Have some chamomile tea and tell me about your day at work sweetheart, you'll feel better and won't be so crabby.
Men complain about being troped = "deal with it, grow up".
Smacky may have been trying to be sarcastic, but his comment is the kind of warm welcome that men are used to receiving. Men are expected to accept how society wants them to be, but feminists want to be able to do whatever they like and still be accepted. They will never be satisfied.
Feminism is about "playing the victim", finding excuses to create issues out of nothing and point fingers at anybody. It's extremely effective for profiteering and promoting personal interests and beliefs. Notice how quickly these topics rake in the cash? That's what this is really all about. They're too busy enjoying the attention and money to help true victims of sexism.
Mostly, however, it's that there's absolutely no conversation about how anything remotely "feminist" is generally a thinly veiled excuse for misandry.
Keep setting yourselves back ladies.
@Smackybutts
Have I told you lately that I love you :D
To me, instances of sexist imagery in entertainment is an overblown issue. They seem to happen more when TV shows and games have lazy writing. Male characters being portrayed lazily happens at the same time as well.
Stay classy folks.
In all seriousness, the disappointing thing about this article (Other than a few of the comments,) is the mental association I make with the word 'feminism.'
In my mind, I default to that over-exaggerated form of it where otherwise-fine people think that anyone of the opposite gender is bad and should die. After thinking about it for a spilt-second, I get into the mindset of true gender equality-relations where people are truly tired of being undervalued simply because of their gender. And I can't say I'm proud for not having done more to advance that cause, but I will be bookmarking that Kickstarter and reading those articles.
@The Virgin Queen
Classy enough for you, young lady?
Or maybe if my fibula is protruding from my skin as I scream in unfettered agony in an emergency room, they might tell me to shut up, because cancer patients are dying down the hall.
If someone is raising money in order to look for a cure for muscular dystrophy, are they a jackass for not ALSO raising money to look for a cure for cancer? (or, in a less binary instance, EVERY OTHER DISEASE)
Yes. There are plenty of lazily and wholly inoffensively written male portrayals in pop culture. That does not in any way diminish women-centric issues of portrayal, nor does it necessitate bringing it up as some sort of illogical..defense? Is that what it is? Newsflash! No one saying there are not problems with how men are portrayed in pop culture! No one is saying that isn't ALSO A BAD THING! That's just not what we're talking about at the present moment!
This project isn't terrible isn't a terrible thing for addressing one issue and not another. Find another avenue for your soapbox. If it's that much of a problem for you, make your own website/blog/Kickstarter project criticizing bad/offensive male tropes in popular culture. Don't attack this for addressing a legitimate issue, just not the one you want to see addressed.
If my mother dies, is that not an unfortunate/unwanted thing because your father also died? No. They're both bad things. Stop being assholes.
This. I think with feminism I've got this irrational fear that all a feminist would want to do is hate on me for being a man. That's the place I go in my head too, and it's a hard association to get rid of, even though half of my friends are girls.
It's definitely a subject that bears criticism. I hope she also focuses on some of the positive female characters such as Alyx Vance, Triptaka and Elena Fisher - characters that have depth and a voic and aren't just T & A. I'd also be interested on how the writer would tackle Samus Aran, before Other M and after it.
Either way, watching with mild interest.
I also find it amazing how their role models are war harlots like Hillary Clinton, who travels the globe setting the stage for genocide and indiscriminate bombing wherever she goes, "just like a man."
Now they can look like boys and fuck other women, "just like a man". PROGRESS? Or just....who gives a shit??
@steve hansen
Your argument is about as vanilla pansy as it gets. You make the first error in assuming that this project or cause is "good" in the first place. Clearly, some think it is stupid, and therefore make their counter points about the side they feel is utterly ignored in favor of this female victim whining that is glorified and worshipped by society at large.
Methinks many of you of the politically correct pov's will never wake from your programming and recognize the world is not one big Oprah Show where we're all going to work it out and get prizes at the end. The genders are as they are various basic and also complex reasons, and until you step out of this terribly predictable pattern of thought, you will continue to allow the destruction of your own species in ways you haven't even identified yet.
Everyone has problem, that is not the point, the point is having problems because you happen to be female.
That said, I'll let the cynic in me come out and say inb4 yet another WAHH JADE ALYX BAYONETTA STRONG FEMALE CHARACTER namedropping diatribe. In my experience, as far as games go, this agenda has a one-note discourse that reminds me of the Games as Art "I felt a thing when [insert SoTC, Limbo, Braid, Jenova Chen], that's why ART." argument everyone loves to parrot on forums. I hope this thing looks deeper than that, especially since they're asking for money.
No seriously shut the fuck up, hush up dude please shut the fuck up.
I dont like this woman, and I dont care for her videos because i hate people that push topics that really arent that important anymore. Bringing things up like shes some beacon for truth and justice.
Also I cant believe she got 8,000 dollars to complain about stuff on youtube.
Hooray! I was waiting for a "sexism don't exist no more, derp" comment. That's the best way to face a topic, right? Pretend it doesn't exist.
