Gran Turismo 5 will get a release date 'soon' photo

It took around fourteen seconds (or twenty minutes Standard Internet Time) to catch a glimpse of a shiny car in the trailer for Gran Turismo 5 at the E3 2009 Sony Press Conference. We joked about the delay for two reasons: (1) that’s a ridiculously long time for a racing game teaser not to have a car and (2) we’ve been talking about GT 5 theoretically for far too long. The latter point may be thrown to the wayside shortly: according to series creator Kazunori Yamauchi, the release date of GT 5 will be revealed soon. We’ll take that marketing push and trickle of car reveals, please. We need some substance.

“We made the announcement today that [the PSPgo title] is coming out Oct. 1 [with Gran Turismo 5 on it]. We will give the release date of the Gran Turismo 5 soon,” Yamauchi told Autoweek Magazine from a hotel during E3 2009.

You’ve heard this story before -- GT 5's release date has been eternally forthcoming. But, hey, it would be silly if we didn’t get a release date “soon” at this point: we’ve seen a lot more of the game than we ever have before.

Keep those fingers crossed. GT 5 is real. We promise.

Gran Turismo is past it's glory days, there are much better racing games out in the world now.

Nissan GT-R and Audi R-8 MMMMM so delicious. It sure feels like this game has been "on the way" for a very long time.

FINALLY. I was starting to think it was gonna be almost-vaporware like it's PSP version.

apparently, there has been a release date set since E3. But I'm not sure if it's real. My brother swears by it since he believes the release dates when his store gets the notification.

@glitched - I hear ya. We were following that, but it looks like it was just a bad listing. If I remember correctly, the site that listed it had quite a few other "holiday" release titles clumped on the same day. Chances are they messed up.

Nooooo!! If they give it an actual release date they will end the tradition of dragging out jaw dropping game footage at every E3 and saying it's coming "soon".

They've said it's ready to go now, they are just perfecting it. I expect it'll be in the holiday season this year. Fingers crossed.

Unfortunately, the Gran Turismo time was when I would go into a shop and gawp at the GT3 graphics for hours.

Nowadays, even though they are impressive, there are far too many comparable games for it to be a major player for me, and plus, I actually want some friggin new gameplay behind it.

Seriously, the endgame races on GT3/4 were obscene. 3 hours a race in a 10 race tournament? No thanks.

I believe the PSP title is just called Gran Turismo.

Thank god the true racing game is back. Sure the are some decent alternatives, but nothing has physics as good as Turismo. I should know too, I race cars. Turismo is the only racing game I will play and I for one am extremely happy that the new one is gonna be coming sooner rather than later. People who have no idea how real racing feels and handles can just stick to Forza and Need for Speed. Leave the real racing to Turismo.

Has to be 2010 sometime. Still, Forza 4 might be out before this game hits the shelves.

I just don't even care about this game anymore. It's been coming as long as Jesus has supposedly been coming back for.

" I should know too, I race cars"

I thought the same about Gears 2, and shotguns blasting heads into eight pieces.
