When I saw Gran Turismo 5 in its near-finished form at E3, Polyphony Digital's Kazunori Yamauchi showed us a trailer that highlighted the special visual effects that went into the game's engine. It was so lovely that I wished everyone could see it. SCEA has just released it, and now we have it for you.
In the above video you'll see that the particles are lit so accurately that headlights will light up smoke and dust. The sun shining through the dusty afternoon haze is beautiful here. The lighting and reflections are insanely realistic as well. Toward the end of the trailer you'll see collisions galore, complete with flipping cars and burnt rubber smoke.
I can't wait.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Yours to own from 2027.
While GT5 looks fantastic, the physics and damage looks weird... I wonder how people would react if we showed this trailer just 15 years ago, and said "that's how games will look in the not-so-distant future".
That's like saying Halo will tank. The fan base makes it impossible.
And I agree with the general consensus: show damage models! That could make me eat crow on my previous comment.
I'm not a racing fan but that looks pretty damn good if you ask me.
The car has a flat black sheet because it's an ALMS racecar (I think it's a P2, but it's hard to tell). Most racecars these days are flat on the bottom to prevent drag, and amplify the downforce created by the body spoilers. All of those fins and wings you see on racecars these days aren't there to look pretty, it's to help move air around the car and make it faster.
Having said that, it remains to be seen if it's only the track cars that have the flat bottom or if it's every car.
however, this game looks gorgeous, can't wait for it
November 2! Can't wait.
Really Destructoid? Really? 2010 and we are watching videos on your site that look like they're being viewed on a static-ky 90's television? Interesting.
And mostly we have to watch ads first, which means I, personally, open up gametrailers and search for the same video there. Where there's never an ad (adblock plus tyvm)
Anyone that bitches at this comment can suck a fat one. I don't want crap video on my favorite gaming site. Screw Springboard, don't support it.
I Can't wait, i'm pre-ordering this week
like REAL racing.
As a long time fan of the series, (since the very first yall) I WILL buy this and I'm pretty sure it will not disappoint. Polyphony KNOW what I want from a racer.
In a game with time trialling, there's no point at all to damage.
Unless you add rewind features.... which is a WHOLE other kettle of fishheads.
Translation....is this going to be a racing game or another "Driving Simulator"?
Don't get me wrong, I loved the first 2 games (and played the 3rd and 4th), but FORZA has raised the bar and delivered amazing simulation, decent actual RACING (both online and solo) AND done it within a reasonable development time frame.
Yes, it will be a hit just because of the fan base, but GT has lost a lot of fans during this 5 year "development cycle", me included.
