Gran Turismo 5 release date still in the air, fast car devs build slow photo

A few days ago we reported that Gran Turismo 5 would be released by Christmas 2009 in the UK. Sony’s chief executive in southern Europe, James Armstrong, conveyed the release date to Spanish newspaper El Financiero. It appears that the quote taken by the newspaper may have been misconstrued or Armstrong simply spoke out of place. In a recent response to a Videogamer inquiry, a Sony spokesperson conveyed that the release date couldn’t be ascertained at this point in the development process.

Polyphony are working on GT5, but we cannot confirm a launch date at this point in time.
It’s good to know that Polyphony are still on the case, but it makes us wonder what exactly is going on under the hood at the studio. Perhaps they are just waiting until the perfect time to throw up a trailer so amazing our brains will all simultaneously pop. Or perhaps they just work really slow.

My housemate bought prologue today for $30 preowned

I played it for an hour and had my fill, it's nice, but I just can't get in to it like I did GT3.

GT is old news now. Making a realistic racing game with no car damage is just retard and not realistic. Wall bouncing cars are awesome!

They said damage is coming. Get your facts straight.

GT: Prologue is enough GT for me.
But yeah this has been in development for a extremely long time. Which is sad for fans. :(

As much as I was looking forward to this game its been too long for me to really care anymore. Its sad because I enjoyed the other GT games, but at some point you just have to realize a poor time investment and simply cut your losses.

They also said Id have my flying car by now too, and look where that is.
I love GT3, but jesus this is turning out like the Indiana Jones movie did. By the time it comes out its WAY past its prime, and does anyone really care at that point either? Just let it go, and create something new

This is why I bought Prologue!

I've played the crap out of that "demo" and I now have no desire to play this at all.

Maybe it's taking so long because they have to basically re-write their code engines to be in compliance, and optimized, for the PS3's quad-core chipset. From what I hear you can't just use what development you've already got for the older Playstation generations.

In Polyphony's case that would be nearly a decade of optimization and code to rewrite completely if they want to include the goodness from the older titles (which they know sells GT) like the Nürburgring and Special Stage Route 5, PLUS add on yet more vehicles and tracks. A daunting task, indeed, only made more frustrating for fans for being locked to Sony.

I have been playing GT since its arrival on playstation and absolutely love the game, but i have to agree the long wait for the latest version has really dampened my enthusiasm for the franchise. I purchased gt5 prologue and have played it to death also, but with a lack of good updates to keep up your interest it has gotten boring to be honest, i helped run an online gt clan on gt4 which ran for quite a while, and which was only stopped with the release of ps3, and honestly, i wish we had kept it going. Online with gt5p is good but i prefer clean honest racing and thats not what you get at the moment with gt5p.
I maybe wrong but i heard a rumour going around that we were supposed to be getting private lobbys and extra tracks in a gt5p update but it never happen , just a couple of cars.. and i'm sorry but if they want to keep interest going for the final product, while waiting ludicrous amount of times for its release, then in my opinion we really need a good update with at least a couple of tracks and private lobbys, to keep the fans onside, if not then when it is finally released then game sales may not be what they are hoping or expecting.
