Gran Turismo 5 Prologue: Plan on licking the bowl? photo

April 15th has long been notoriously associated with tax deadlines, but thanks to Gran Turismo 5 Prologue being released on that day, gamers at least have something positive to look forward to. Many of you are still on the fence about spending money on it, just to go back and purchase the full game later on down the road, and that's understandable.

However, Associate Producer of SCEA Chris Hinojosa-Miranda wants to remind you that the full fledged game is still at least a year away, and that by skipping Prologue, you're only doing yourself a great disservice. Also, ice cream:

You could borrow it from someone, but that’s like licking the bowl after someone’s finished the ice cream…

Also, to further clarify, GT5 is still about a year away. You should just decide now to buy it, enjoy it, go online and race against anyone and everyone, rank number one worldwide, get the girl (or guy) and become the most popular kid in town. The end.

I can't say that I'm buying that whole ice cream bit, but Gran Turismo has never let us down in the past (except the whole damage model thing for crashes), and as far as many are concerned, even a little Prologue now is better than having to suffer through another year without any GT fix.

I can wait a whole year for Gran Turismo 5. Besides, I still have the previous 4 games to fall back on.

Geez if the full game is still a year away, I might just have to get Prologue.
Failing that I'll play GT4 or even Forza 2 if I have to.

Fanboys are ridiculous.

Just buy a game cause its good.

GT5 looks like an HD GT4 with more cars and tracks.

I'll buy the next Gran Turismo when it has damage and is truly next gen by keeping up with Forza and other racers.

Gran Turismo has let me down in the past. Somewhere around GT3, I was sitting there playing, and I realized, "Hang on a second, I am completely bored out of my mind. This isn't fun any more. I quit."

I've been happier ever since.

Jesus Christ... a year away?

Stop putting that extra polish on Toyota Corollas and just release the game already.

@Dexter345

Haha, that is so awesome.

I wonder, do you have to be a big "car guy" to maybe like these games? Cause when it comes to racing games, I want them to be fun... not realistic.

Please SCEA Producers, Execs, Marketing drones, etc. - Don't patronize us. I'm already in the camp that will gleefully plunk down for Prologue upon release. Others will wait for a full blown GT game, and a third group will mock the other two groups. Good Humor metaphors are unlikely to change that dynamic to any significant degree. Also, it makes you sound like a tool.

I'll just keep not playing the first one. Considering they haven't done a single interesting update to the series since the first one.

Madden does more every year....

This is the game that SHOULD have been available on day one on the console's life. A year away is simply a disgrace, clear your desk, take your best business suit and go for the "great walk" in the forest.
PS3 is becoming a blue ray player that plays games, shame.

I'm content with Burnout: Paradise, and that isn't even remotely similar to the GT games in terms of reality or style. The GT, Forza, and even the Gotham Racing games bore the shit out of me.

NOTWITHSTANDING: The tone taken by Hinojosa-Miranda reminds me of the early Sony quotes about putting in overtime to buy a PS3.

I honestly don't understand the hype over damage. Honestly I don't want to know that I might be taking the turn too fast only to die on the 29th lap out of 30. GT has always been about picking at the corners, and sucking the milliseconds out of that lap time - just like real tracking. And I love this game for that.

I don't want GT to become a Burnout in terms of crashing. You have BURNOUT for that. Why compete with Burnout when that game was set up from the ground to trash cars and stuff?

GT is a pure driving simulator, so keep it that way. And for what it is, with the perfectly matching interiors and absolutely amazing extras included within Prologue, in my mind it's already surpassed FULL GAME status.

Rigging up two cockpits with Driving Force Pro + G25, and picking this up on day 1 =D.

Must have a sexy game on the PS3 to show off them graphics and HDTV and I think this "demo" will deliver. $39.99 aint so bad as I would rather pay this than $59.99 to get a few extra tracks and cars......but thats just me.

Also, bowls.

I love his mannerisms when it comes to salesmenship.

Also, if that's a screenshot of the game that's incredibly fucking impressive. They've got the light reflections on the car just right, I had to examine it for a while to see if it wasn't' a real picture (the guy on the right looks digital :P). I wouldn't be surprised if I made the wrong assumption.

If they are going to do damage, they will have to do it right. In order to do it right, not only are they going to show damage, but they are going to have to make it affect car performance like only going 40 mph or not being able to make right turns for example.

That being said, I'm glad they didn't include damage.

I'm not knowingly buying an incomplete game. I'm content with Forza 2 for my driving sim needs right now.

I tasted the batter with the GT HD demo and found it lacking. If GT5 doesn't have car damage, I'm not wasting my money on it. It's like watching softcore on Cinemax.

Hey Jetsetlemming, the replays are simply stunning (the cars anyway) but the actual game when playing looks quite pedestrian in comparison. The problem with this level of realism is when it just does not fit with the physical word (damage etc). Take at look at the latest RACEGRID game from codemasters, it looks like it might be a contender, not as ultrareal but hopefully better in other ways.

I don't understand why anyone cares for damage as if it were a deal breaker. In a real race, the second your car is damaged, you're out of the race. You don't keep going with your bumper grinding against the tires.

People say it'd be more realistic but more realistic would be instant restart at the first slight crash.

(BTW, I will be picking this up to race online)

@keyrat: In a game that calls itself “The Real Driving Simulator™”, having no car damage creates a jarring disconnect with everything else in the game, which is unbelievably realistic.

Also, I second Zer0 H0ur’s and Crapsh00t’s comments...what was this guy, Ken Kutaragi’s understudy or something? Sheesh. Keep your damn mouth shut. I still refuse to pay $40 for half a game, only to have to pay another $60 later on for the full thing.

Darn... I want it. But not at the current price point.

Which seems more like a online beta for the full version.

Maybe if it was $20-30 I would snatch it up in an instant.

@all the people saying damage is unrealistic

Are you cereal? In real life if you tap a wall going 80 MPH, it will not end well.

Why dont they just give you th eprologue for free, or like 10 quid! I played the demo and it looked great, but the cars just dont feel right, feels like they float when they leave the ground!
i love GT 1-3 but like osmeone else said they just bore now especially when they take so long to come out!!
Damage is a good thing to have, doesnt have to be major damage, just a few kinks and dents just to add some flavour to a tired genre.
Take pgr4 for example, looks lovely and made better with slight damage, much more exciting game! Its not a driving sim but nor is GT without damage!!
It should strip the title from its name otherwise im gonna drive my car into the wall and sue them as it didnt happen like that in the game....haha
Anysways sucky move from SONY another reason i left them for xbox360.
Saying that might get another PSP for Crisis Core!
