Attention to everyone that likes to bitch, including those that won't even play this game: Word is that Gran Turismo 5 takes 50 minutes to install, and up to 10 GB of hard disk space. CVG linked us to a forum post where one guy that apparently has the game says it takes this long, and that the "space taken is actually about 6.4GB, but that space gradually unpacks as you're playing to be closer to the previously mentioned 10GB."
My response? Big fu*king deal.
We waited like five years for this? You can't wait another hour? You don't have something you could be doing while you wait? It's not the end of the world, folks. It's an hour.
For the whiners, there's good news, as Sony tells Eurogamer you can optionally install the game in chunks as you play.
"GT5 gives users the option of an install," Sony says. "This makes loading times throughout much faster but is not a requirement when first playing. If users choose not to install the data straight away, it will do it in stages as new areas, tracks, etc. are access during normal gameplay."
And here's the other thing: This is a racing game of unprecedented size. It has about 1,000 cars in it. It attempts to be the end-all racing game with its various modes, course types and online functionality. Can't you wait an hour for that? Forza 3 is the only other game that I can think of that comes close, and I remember it taking about 30 minutes to install. Remember that it came with a second install disc?
Wait 50 minutes. Get your wheel hooked up. Put your phone on mute. Crank up your audio system. They spent five years working on it; this should be a pretty good game.
