That said, 50 minutes? What the hell is it doing that whole time? A PC game, even a huge one like GTA4 (16GB) installs in less than half that time.
Ugh.
I may as well uninstall every other game now and hope I never want to play them again.
One of the advantages of earlier consoles is you didn't have to install.
That being said, installing game to me feels like someone did a sloppy programming job. Especially when I look at games like God of War 3 or Killzone 2 that work absolutely fine without installing a thing.
Not forgetting that FFXIII had no install either and whether or not someone like the game or not doesn't change the fact that it's among the very best games this generation from a technical standpoint.
just enough time to smoke a joint, blow an eight ball and tweak out before driving under the virtual influence.
The key word here is "optional" and I have 110 gigs free still from my 250, kaboom!
@fetusmilk
lol
Takes 30 minutes to install.
Anyway, Dale North has the right idea. We've waited for five years -- and coped with one broken promise (I haven't forgotten about "Gran Turismo 4 - Volume 2", Yamauchi!) -- so what's another 50 minutes? Besides, don't you have anything else better to do with your life than stare at the TV screen for 50 minutes? Go and help your mom take out the garbage or spend some quality time with the missus and take a nap afterwards. But, then again, it's been reported that you can play while it loads, so why are people complaining?
As for the hard drive space issue.....you still haven't upgraded? Surely, if anyone is "rich" enough to buy a PS3, you could at least spend $50 more for a 320GB or higher HDD. Sony made transferring as easy as pie....no excuses!
Quite a bit of progress can be made in New Vegas in 50 minutes which I have no problem doing.
Big fucking deal, indeed.
So, the first time you use an option, track, car, setting it installs in little bits, which it then wont have to install next time. Seriously, its not very bad and you don't really notice it much.
Also, Gran-fucking-Turismo 5, YEAH!! :D
GTA4 for Windows installs fast? Good to know.
Then again Mafia (FIRST ONE) took me more than half an hour to install on a relatively new computer. They suggest to play it with a 700mhz cpu. I did it with a dual core 2.9ghz one. It really can vary a lot from game to game: the same machine installed NFS: Hot Pursuit 2 (not NFS: HP that came out days ago, very "smartly" named like the 1998 one) with his 600+mb of stuff in less than two minutes....
That said, consoles use 2.5" drives, and those are slower than the common 3.5" found in desktop computers, so that's one of the factors. Don't ask me other ones as i'm not that knowledgable.... i could add the kind of files (to decompress or just copy, thousands of tiny ones or few huge ones) but really, beyond this i have no clue.
I'm sure this game will do fine and will be ok, but it will disappoint some fans just like any other game that is shown early and takes to long to come out.
I also still find it funny that they released a 30$ demo of GT5 and the Forza trilogy was released before this game came out.
Yes. I also remember a time when glitches in a PC game were rarely fixed by an update. And console glitches? Fuggedaboutit. You were stuck with them. Now? People whine when it takes a week to get a patch for some little piddling issue. Kids these days...get of my lawn!
Also a good reason to wait that long. Playing huge games like GT5 off that 2x drive without any local data would be horrible.
Pretty sure it installs slower because it's a Blu-ray. The read times are a lot slower than CDs and DVDs.
Forgot Killzone did that. Still, I'll take an awkward pause or two over waiting 50 minutes and using up 10 GB of space.
If you look at GoW3 torrents, you'll see it's 40gb of stuff...... probably not much less than GT5 XD
Also, should i point that at least 300 of the cars are bound to be Skyline? Most of those will share the same 3d model. The interior of the cars is only for the so called "premium" ones, not all of them.
Have a look at this http://pastebin.com/7UGc2Zv1 it's some personal research on GT for PSP. I think i forgot an handful of cars, but you get the point. (also, not making any claim about knowing what car share the same 3d model, just guessing by the look!)
That 40 gb for gow 3 has absolutely nothing to do with how much is installed on the harddrive. Unless I'm missing your point.
Of course they're going to import models they've already made and update them. Do you even have a clue what a computer is and how to turn one on, let alone model a car in a 3D modeling program? Seriously, this game being amazing isn't going to crush your precious 360 lifestyle. Just move on.
@Dale & the whole download thing - Good thing I have a 500GB HDD I installed recently. I recommend it for anyone. Very simple and was $50. Now I can install everything and not even worry. As for the 50min, meh, consoles are becoming more and more like PCs, and I'm already used to impossibly long installs from Steam. Force Unleashed anyone?
