Agreed I don't get while ppl bitch so much. If you want the optimal experience, install. If not, don't install. Simple as that
Since I've been installing games my whole life it always baffles me why this is such a big deal to console peeps.
That said, 50 minutes? What the hell is it doing that whole time? A PC game, even a huge one like GTA4 (16GB) installs in less than half that time.

All this install stuff this generation kind of annoys me. Not because of the time but because of the space; I don't have infinite reserves in my HDD, I have 80GB. If I want more I have to spend money on a larger hard dive, back my old on onto another hard drive, format the new one and transfer everything back. I'm not made of money and I don't like the constant juggling of data to fit which of my games I'm currently playing (which is also time consuming). That said I probably be getting this when I have a little money.

One of the advantages of earlier consoles is you didn't have to install.
That being said, installing game to me feels like someone did a sloppy programming job. Especially when I look at games like God of War 3 or Killzone 2 that work absolutely fine without installing a thing.

Back in the days, PC games could take while more that that to install, and not so long ago, COD2 was F#king six CDs that took horribly long to install. I don't really thing this will really take 50 minutes to install, since "people" who supposedly got MGS4 early said the game took long time to install and it really didn't take as long as they said...
@Fugly Duckling loading times on earlier consoles sucked. Running a game off of hard drive is faster than running from disc.
I have been waiting for years for this game. Waiting another hour while it installs is something I'll probably be able to manage.

Not forgetting that FFXIII had no install either and whether or not someone like the game or not doesn't change the fact that it's among the very best games this generation from a technical standpoint.

At least they give you the option of playing while installing. This is sad for people who don't have more than a 20 or 40 gb PS3, though.

@ Fugly Duckling. While GOW 3 was fine, Killzone 2 would "freeze" at parts when it starts to load. It completely destroys the immersion of an other wise very good campaign. I would much rather have an install that deal with this with Killzone 3. I started playing it recently and forgot it did this, I thought my PS3 froze and I was about to restart when it finished loading.
@Epic-KxDtoid: Vaporware ALWAYS flops....vaporware games are cancelled or abandoned before they're released. I don't know if there's a "-ware" term for a game that takes forever to come out (constipationware?), but it's definitely not vaporware.
Anyway, Dale North has the right idea. We've waited for five years -- and coped with one broken promise (I haven't forgotten about "Gran Turismo 4 - Volume 2", Yamauchi!) -- so what's another 50 minutes? Besides, don't you have anything else better to do with your life than stare at the TV screen for 50 minutes? Go and help your mom take out the garbage or spend some quality time with the missus and take a nap afterwards. But, then again, it's been reported that you can play while it loads, so why are people complaining?
As for the hard drive space issue.....you still haven't upgraded? Surely, if anyone is "rich" enough to buy a PS3, you could at least spend $50 more for a 320GB or higher HDD. Sony made transferring as easy as pie....no excuses!

I think the only PS3 game I've ever had to install (except for PSN downloads, of course) is MGS4. I'm sure I have plenty of room for this.
Quite a bit of progress can be made in New Vegas in 50 minutes which I have no problem doing.

I have Gran Turismo 5. The installation isn't to bad. It installs in bits each time you do something. So, when you turn the game on for the first time it installs for about 2mins. Then, when you go to your garage it installs the garage bit [1min-ish] then if you go to a race it installs that track [1min-ish] and it continues like this.
So, the first time you use an option, track, car, setting it installs in little bits, which it then wont have to install next time. Seriously, its not very bad and you don't really notice it much.

How long did GT PSP take to come out?? Look how that ended up.
I'm sure this game will do fine and will be ok, but it will disappoint some fans just like any other game that is shown early and takes to long to come out.
I also still find it funny that they released a 30$ demo of GT5 and the Forza trilogy was released before this game came out.

Yes. I also remember a time when glitches in a PC game were rarely fixed by an update. And console glitches? Fuggedaboutit. You were stuck with them. Now? People whine when it takes a week to get a patch for some little piddling issue. Kids these days...get of my lawn!

The installs don't bother me as much as the updates do. It took me 2.5 hours to update Pain. Pain is like a 300MB PSN game. Installs have never stopped me from playing a game, but updates have.
Turn on you PS3...install the game. Then turn on your 360 and play something for an hour while GT5 installs. Thats what I would do if I was going to buy GT5, which I probably won't. Not into driving simulation games. Like games like Need for Speed more.
It takes a long time because the Blu-Ray drive's speed is only 2x. Yay Sony.
Also a good reason to wait that long. Playing huge games like GT5 off that 2x drive without any local data would be horrible.

10GB sweet merciless monkey hell that a whopper of an install. Good to see you can plug it in a little at a time.
Alright let's look at this from a technical standpoint. Over a thousand cars each of the with different model builds, interiors, tires and rims, and entirely different sounding engines. Then tack on upgrades made to said vehicles. Plus 72 different tracks. Yes god of war didn't have an install, but it only lasted 8 to 12 hours and enemies and npcs were not too varied ( albeit still a great game) . As for those talking about rpgs with over a thousand npcs, they are npcs that could be built from the same model with different skins, and the same voice actor for several of them, and for the hundreds of miles of land, how much of that is, grass, cavern grass, mountain, grass, ocassional city. 50 minutes for something for something so technical, I'll join the wait.

I'd rather have a massive install and a long wait time over MGS4's method of making you install a new bit every time you want to change acts. It's one thing when you play the game in order, but it gets awful when you want to go back and do the fun parts. Just get it all out of the way to begin with, says I

50 minutes is pretty lengthy, but ultimately pretty trivial when it comes to how much time people playing GT. I'm a huge fan of full installs though. It puts the stress on the HD, which can be easily replaced, instead of the optical drive. I really wish the PS3 would just let us do installs like the 360.

As for the 50min, meh, consoles are becoming more and more like PCs, and I'm already used to impossibly long installs from Steam. Force Unleashed anyone?
