Then I looked at my "game section". Are you fucking kidding me? I had no less than EIGHT games that had over a GB of cached data - one even had 4GB of useless data! Why!
Don't get me wrong, I like that they're adding features in post-release. I just really, really, REALLY wish I didn't have to take my system off-line to delay a patch. I'd like to get home, do a few races, and then enable the patch when I go out or something.
Ah well.
PS - Monday Night Combat just received a free 400ish MB patch the other day, so I'm not sure why that 4MB number even exists...
but the patch is FUCKING awesome! it seems to fix a LOT of issues and some of the new challenges seem really worth the trouble
- you can become a PS+ member and the games/system will update itself when you're not using it.
- Just cancel the update and play. Patch later.
- Or stop bitchin and change your tampon.
Game on!
Because not everyone has a 320GB HDD to blow on patches that shouldn't be necessary in the first place. I have a 40GB and just between the forced installs and a few PSN games I'm running low on space. I don't have the money or time to upgrade my HDD right now, the point is I shouldn't have to. What happened to making complete games? Especially ones that have been in development for 5 years...
I own Fallout 3 on both 360 and PS3. Somehow the PS3 patch is 4GB larger than my 360 version.
That's why I have an issue. 20 games later, that adds up.
Then you have to add in games that REQUIRE you to install!
Because it can take an hour or more from the time you put in a disc to playing between a game's installation, any new system updates, and any game updates? If I didn't have an Xbox 360 to switch to, I'd flip the fuck out.
Speaking of which, the biggest Xbox 360 game update I've ever had was Monday Night Combat, and that only took five minutes. The new Xbox update for Kinect took less than three. I've installed PS3 updates that do nothing but "security updates" which have taken longer.
The patching? It's a problem. My dad bought himself a game yesterday and he was complaining that it took him twenty minutes to get to playing it. It's really kind of pathetic.
I have a fat PS3 ;)
Thing is, patching is so damn easy. Just wait. You don't need to look for any source where you can get the patch, download it from a a way too overloaded host with 2-3 kb/sec and then install it.
Now you just have to press some buttons. Usually my patches are downloaded with 2-3 Mb/sec so the network is pretty fast too. I don't know guys, I never had any problems with patching nor was I upset when a patch was showing up. I think you are just spoiled.
Now HDD size is something different. Yeah, Sony dropped the ball with their 40gb PS3. It was and is too small.
I'm spoiled for wanting my games to take less than five minutes from the time I take it out of shrink wrap to the time I'm playing it? Right. I switched from PC gaming to console gaming partially because I was sick of installations.
And the HD-size is a massive issue for me, and one of the reasons ALL my multi-platform games are on Xbox 360. I've got well over 150 games this generation. Try guessing the HD size I'd need if I had them on my PS3.
if you have a ps3 and are running out of space just get a 500gb 2.5" hard drive. they are less than 100$.
and this is funny, they release a patch that adds and fixes a ton of shit, did you really think it was only gonna be 20 megabytes? or would you have rather wanted 6 100 megabyte patches over the course of 6 weeks?
sofic, what the fuck are you playing right now? how much is microsoft paying you for your pointless posts here?
Put bluntly, even a 500 gig hard drive wouldn't be big enough for my needs. Here's a selected list of the multiplatform games I've got for 360...
Bioshock - 5 gigs
Bioshock 2 - 4.98 gigs
Devil May Cry - 4.83 gigs
Fallout 3 - 5 gigs
Fallout: NV - 5 gigs
Far Cry 2 - 3.5 gigs
GTAVI - 3.3 gigs
Hawx - 4 gigs
Lost Planet - 4.9 gigs
Lost Planet 2 - 4.61 gigs
Oblivion - 4.6 gigs
Saints Row 2 - 3.8 gigs
Total: 53.52 gigs
That's a tenth of one of the largest available, cost-effective HDs on the market for a PS3. And that doesn't take into account DLC, Updates, or Console-exclusive game installations.
The patching and installations? They're ridiculous and add up quickly.
On the one hand, sure, why not. Go ahead and delete your game installations. On the other hand... It'd be infuriating to pick through my collection and decide that hey, I'd like to play this game I haven't played in a couple years... And find I've got to wait half an hour.
First people complain about the lack of things. Developer adds stuff. Then people complain about the patch. What the hell is wrong with you all? Stop complaining and thank the devs for listening. It's not Activision we're talking about here. Damn.
Also that patch took me less than 4 mins. I know because I watched a 4 min long video and it was done before that ended.
@Magnalon
There is an option in GT5 which says "Delete cache date". You might want to check that out.
More updates please! More premium cars please!
Yes, it's that simple.
At first they made us wait for the development.
Then we waited for the delayed release
When we got it, we waited for it to install
Then we waited for it to load, every. single. screen.
Then patch after patch we waited hours to download.
Then there was no one left to wait.
that's the meta game aspect of GT. GT people like that shit. I feel the pain for any late buyer for this game. Of course it also creates late. And of course this costs Sony money since it has to waste its bandwidth.
