Gran Turismo 5 definitely not coming out soon photo

One of the odder points of Sony’s press conference at E3 this year was the unveiling of Polyphany Digital’s newest enhancement for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, called GT TV. Apparently, GT TV and the additional content planned for Prologue has taken the front seat, while GT 5 is almost completely off the radar. In an IGN E3 interview with Polyphony executive Kazunori Yamauchi, it was revealed that we might not see Gran Turismo 5 until 2010.

There's no plans in the works for GT5 yet - that might be 2009, or it might be 2010... But we're totally focused on getting the updates through for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, and that's all we're focused on.

Maybe I’m still a little too old school, but I find a game built upon the premise of buying additional content to be a bit disconcerting. I suppose I was under the impression that Prologue was a short-term placeholder for the real game. To know that I could be asked to keep supporting Prologue via content for the next year or two is not a good thing to be asking, even if its just videos and better physics. How do you guys feel about waiting for the "real" title?

I hate Gran Turismo so I care very little, but even I will acknowledge that it seems very odd/dumb to call this game "Prologue."

So Prologue was $40, I bought it had fun so I don't care about the "full" version of GT5 anymore.

Wait, GT5P isn't just like a teaser game for everyone to play while GT5 is developed? I don't have a PS3 so maybe I'm out of the loop. If that's not how it is then maybe they should change their naming conventions...

Bah...screw GT, I had more fun with Forza2 than I've had with any GT game. I don't care what they add to prologue, they're not getting my money for an overstuffed demo, in fact lets call prologue what it really is; a way to pay for the ridiculous amount of development time GT5 appearently needs.
this is not a trend I want to support.

Some one out there has a serious case of masochistic bullshit.

Pay $40 for the right to pay even more money to finance a game that won't come out for two more years and, predicatably, stomach a physics engine that obsessively flings you into the walls for the sake of realism rather than fun?

No.

I stopped caring about GT5 after they released prologue. I'll probably still buy it when it comes out...in 5 years.

I'd like to take this moment to announce my company's latest game "Super Fantastic Best Ever When Its Made We Promise Prologue" to be released in 2024 on the Sega Stationcast 36ii.

The full game has a current release window of Spring Two-thousand-never.

Why would they focus on GT5? They can just bleed their fans dry with GT5 Prologue, better known as DLC the game.

Kinda glad I didn't pick up prologue now. I loved the previous versions of the GT series, but $40 for an extended demo and now this add on DLC to squeeze more money out of us for an unfinished product seems rather silly to me. I'll wait for the full version to see if I want it or not, maybe on the PS4?

Uhoh. Shitstorm incoming.

Thing is...we already have GTTV for GT5:P. It just needs more videos! Personally ?I'm waiting for the Top Gear content. Which, by the way, if they charge me for (after fully paying the BBC licence fee) I will throw a massive hissy fit over.

Man, Polyphany Digital is brilliant. Who else can hype a game for 2 years, then sell a demo (say what you will, it's still a demo) of it for near full price. Then hype the demo for another year, before they hype the full game for another year and then finally release it.

I'm just gonna wait till Sony releases the PS4 and grab this with a cheap PS3.

....this is about 80% of the reason why people don't even bother with the GT series anymore.

When's the PSP GT coming out guys?

This just pisses me right off. I was under the impression that GT5 was being made this whole time and that Prologue was the mid-term paper. 2010 is fucking bullshit. Not that I didn't expect it out of Polyphony. But that's just not what I want. I'm tired of Forza, I want a full GT!

Well this just makes too much sense business-wise. It's the MMO business model all over again (except that it's not guaranteed monthly payments, you actually have to get something people will find worthwhile to buy out there).

If this isn't met with much opposition (it hasn't been so far) I'm sure most developers that are doing a game that can be built track-by-track and car-by-car will follow Polyphony's lead.

Racing games will then get expensive just like MMOs. On the plus side they will have even more massive amounts of content than previously though.

$40 for GT5:P which is essentially a beta of a demo.

i would have thought i would be getting GT TV for free after that. either Polyphony is money grubbing like crazy or they're running into major walls trying to get the most out of the PS3.

when i play GT5:P then i play Forza 2. Honestly, i think forza looks better. GT5:P has those sharp lines but it lacks any particle effects, any damage, any day/night/weather cycles, & generally has crappy physics in comparison.

i hope hope hope that Polyphony pulls off a miracle & GT5 is a big step above GT5:P but i'm not holding my breath. imo, their goals are too lofty for the PS3 to achieve. they were promised a god machine & ended up w/ something average.

EPIC FAIL, this is why people loose interest in PS3, almost every exclusive game is stunningly late.

@wonky360

The real epic fail is your spelling of the word "lose".

This does suck though... why not at a few more tracks and cars and just call it GT5. That will make the wait for the real GT5 (or 6 if you follow my thinking) much more bearable.
