Grab the original Rise of the Triad on sale at GOG.com
I mentioned this to people whilst I was at PAX but the idea that in 2012 the Destructoid PAX Party would be sponsored by a new Rise of the Triad game was fairly mindblowing. If you haven't played the original Rise of the Triad: Dark War, then you should buy it from GOG.com for the special promotion price of $2.39 whilst you can. Rise of the Triad: Dark War gets overlooked when it came to influential early PC FPS titles; it, along with Duke Nukem 3D, helped bridge the gap between Doom and Quake. It was also the game that my dad caught me playing on his work laptop and then prohibited me from playing any more PC on said laptop. Spoilsport. Still now you can enjoy the ludicrous gore and insane power ups for 60% off it's regular price until 10:59am GMT on Thursday the 13th of September. Did you know? You can now get daily or weekly email notifications when humans reply to your comments.
Legacy Comments (will be imported soon)How can you not love a game that not only has LUDICROUS GIBS, but also comes with both God Mode and Dog Mode.
Sign me up. I'll pick it up, probably. See, giving away the first few levels as shareware totally worked! It only took me like fifteen years, but better late than never right? I never played any more than the shareware release, but god damn was it good. Might have to pick this up! As someone who grew up on both console and pc gaming in the 80's and 90's, yes, Rise of the Triad is stupidly fun. What made the game for me was besides being excessively violent, it also kinda poked fun and made fun of the FPS genre in general. It was a real treat to play back in the day and with a new game coming out, I hope it can capture the charm of the original. I just bought it and I don't know if it's any good but I like Duke Nukem 3D a LOT so this should be good too.
IF IT TURNS OUT YA LIED TO ME I'LL BE RATHER UPSET I remember the hype for this game before it even came out, then it and Heretic came out around the same time. Those games were mind-blowing at the time. This game is awesome. It's very gory, if you shoot a guy and aim the gun he'll drop to his knees and beg for his life, where you promptly shoot him dead execution style. You can get a the Excalibat which is a baseball bat that fires flaming baseballs, you can turn into a dog and attac guys or do a super scream which blows them up. This game is insane! I had it back in the day but lost it long go so $2.39 is an amazing price, plus it has bonus levels! 8:00 PM on 05.17.2013 Weekend PC deals: Telltale, Metro 2033, and BorderlandsGamersGate has got a glut of offers on this weekend, reducing the Jagged Alliance games and the Men of War franchises by up to 75%.
