Gotham City Impostors allegedly wiping profiles and DLC photo

Destructoid has received several emails from Gotham City Impostors players, letting us know that a significant number of player profiles keep getting reset by a bug. Even worse, if a victim bought any downloadable content, it'll no longer associated with their account, so the money's been lost.

This issue seems to be affecting both Xbox 360 and PS3 users. The issue was allegedly noted in the beta, but it hasn't been fixed if it's still happening.

The game's official message board currently has a 56-page thread on the issue, to which the community manager has responded. He's confirmed there is an issue that Monolith is working on, but hasn't said much more beyond that. That was several days ago though, and no further response has been had from official quarters.

We recently contact Warner Bros. on the issue, but haven't heard anything back yet. As soon as we do, we'll let you know what's up, because if players run the risk of having their time and money wasted, that's something that shouldn't be kept quiet. Seriously.

The Destructoid review of Gotham City Impostors will be out later this week.

Wow... although the beta constantly resetting stats was enough to turn me off. I'll wait for a game of the year edition and a few updates before I consider throwing any money at this one.

Wow, That really sucks.

I mean if it were a good game and that happened that would be horrible.
But the fact that the game is shit and it resets your account, thats like a double kick to the balls.

Why does it seem like there's a story like this every week? Has gaming really gotten to the point where day one patches and rampant glitch issues are so commonplace that they've become the omnipresent background noise that we've all acquired a certain deafness to? For all the advancements this generation of gaming has achieved, can we at least agree that shit like this is indeed one of the handful of giant steps back?

Hopefully the people who lost sweet sweet skrilla because of this ridiculousness get what's owed to them. Or, failing that, gloves with which to demand satisfaction.

PC users shouldn't be affected, since they are forced through 3 DIFFERENT FUCKING GATES TO PLAY
1) LOG IN TO STEAM
2) LAUNCH GAME
3) LOG IN TO WINDOWS LIVE
4) ENTER THE 12 DIGIT CD KEY
5) CREATE A FUCKING WARNER ID
6) TYPE IN CAPS ALL THE FUCKING TIME FROM NOW ON!
7) Congratulations, you can now play.

Oh shit. I'm level 60 and I've almost completely decked both my Bats and Jokerz characters in my desired attire... Maybe I'll hold off on playing this for a bit til they fix the bug.

Nothing worse than losing progress in a game - I remember my dreamcast wiping the memory card clean, didn't go back to it for weeks.

Well it's a good thing they focused in having that 200 hundred dollars worth of DLC ready for launch rather than making sure the code was solid. And bonus you get to buy all you DLC over again! Lucky you!

I have had my profile reset on PC, too. Don't know if it would have reset DLC, though. (Don't have any.) Good thing that I was only level 8.

Not funny, Joker. That's why so serious. You don't mess with people's money and game progress at the same time!

I finally have a fun FPS alternative to Battlefield, COD, and Halo on consoles, so I'm going to give these guys a lot of slack.

I'm really glad I have managed to hold off on buying this despite my recent urge to play a new online shooter (surely my incoming copy of Kingdoms of Amalur will take up most of my time anyway, but still). I guess I can wait for a price drop or at the very least wait until the game is actually working properly.

Although, come to think of it, maybe it's not a bug at all. People have been comparing this game to a F2P model. Maybe you never really owned that cool bat cape you spent 3 dollars on, you just rented it. Serves you right for buying cosmetic upgrades to a game.

Amen to that, they havent said anything past "We're troubleshooting." I love the game personally but the way the devs are handling it's issues is pathetic. They've been saying the same thing for a week now with really know signs of them moving forward with any type of fixes. It's a shame that they could be losing their entire playerbase on an incredible game, but if they cant get these bugs fixed in a timely manner then that is what's going to happen.

Well thats another lovely problem to look out for, mine doesn't even want to save to my hard-drive, keeps saying 'writing to the drive has failed. would you like to retry?'....lemme think....YES!!

I want to know why the "failed arbitration" error and 3-second freeze frames are still plaguing this game, it is a problem I mentioned to them as much as possible during the beta process and specifically mentioned that the download-only nature of the title means that any persistent connection problems or issues such as those mentioned in the article carry a higher risk for the customer over a retail or otherwise single-player capable game.

Could you imagine opening TF2 and finding all of your items missing? Or spending the 20 bucks (or is it 15?) on this game only to never be able to connect to a match? Or if the online pass you paid for/came with your new game required you to pay for it again because of a glitch? Of course, all those EULAs abdicate responsibility of the publisher to ensure that your product actually works. Cause its not a product. It's a "service."

I HATED BATMAN ARKHAM CITY FOR DOING THOSE EXACT THINGS THAT YOU MENTIONED ABOVE ALL IN CAPS.

I now have a windows live account so I can play and SAVE a game that I bought, fuck that noise MS.

It's been like that for a while. Longer, for people with PC game experience.

It's even why some people were wary of making consoles that allowed game patching, because it increased the odds that developers would get lazy or careless knowing that they could release patches.

Usually, they are faster when it's about piracy.

This, on top of their shitty excuse for a matchmaking service is preventing me from recommending this game to friends. Played it at PAX, loved it! Played the Beta, took up to 15 minutes to find a game, but enjoyed it when it worked. This is inexcusable for a full release, especially if people paid money for it, and run the risk of losing their data. As hyped as I was for the game to initially come out, I hope the review is taking a lot of these shortcomings to heart.

Game is a blast to play, but it definitely has some issues. It seems like balance went out the window in regards to a few weapons post-beta. A triple burst weapon that does as much damage as a shotgun...at a much farther range and doesn't lose damage up close? yeah, broke.

Anyways,I'm hoping my stats don't get reset. 4.0 K/D and I have all my classes pretty much perfected :(

Just another argument for not having Day 1 DLC.
Provide DLC AFTER you have assured that the game you've made doesn't have significant faults.

So what the fuck do they even do in beta's anymore? Every game that has had a beta still has horrible glitches. They should just start calling them glorified demos.

@usedtabe ya I did the beta found glitches, told them, bought the game, still take advantage of them.
@arkane9 its not true dlc you just pay to unlock stuff instead of playing to unlock it in an hour, its kinda a genius marketing technique but sickens me to see how lazy gamers are.

I wish it would have reset in the beta, you could only get to lvl 25 and get enough to unlock like 4 guns and like 2 equipments.

I also don't understand why the beta didn't have team deathmatch so we had to play objectives, and now that we have team deathmatch I can't get a game of fumigation.

What else is new. A game is released broken, maybe gets fixed in future patches.

Too bad companies making the consoles don't have the balls to punish publishers for releasing obviously broken games.

So.. #1 reason to keep off purchasing for as long as possible. If it does get better, please update Jim. I've heard of bugs like this never being readdressed by PR or games j.. gaming-news coverage professionals and decided the game isn't worth my time if I have to dig real hard with no guarantee of an answer.

I've been waiting for Destructoid to review this game since it came out. I've bought it already and I'm really enjoying it and haven't had any problems. I'm just curious what you guys think of it.
