Google Maps: Dragon Quest edition!
Leave it to Google to show the rest of the world how to properly pull an April Fools' prank! Launched earlier today, Google Maps has received an update with the help of Square Enix. If you visit the Maps page and click the "Quest" icon in the top-right corner, the entire map will be rendered as an NES-era, Dragon Quest overworld. Cities become 8-bit towns, major roads become dirt paths, and flag markers become little heroes. Even the Street View becomes a limited-color mess of pixels! Granted, it's nowhere near as awesome as the Famicom cartridge demonstration in the video above, but it's still pretty damn awesome. Well played, Google! Well played! Don't forget to be on the lookout for Slimes and other such Easter eggs! (Thanks to everyone who tipped this in! Seriously, this made my day!) Legacy Comments (will be imported soon)Man I flipped out when I saw this. Love all the famous landmarks on there in their respective 8-bit form. Yeah this isn't so much an April fools prank as it is a fucking awesome novelty. They've kept their previous April fools jokes up so I imagine this will be sticking around, too. A joke was lost in translation here, they said one of the greatest computer systems of all time the NES (instead of) the family computer system, but do to alot of people not knowing what a famicom is, they said NES and threw an NES in there. As Chad Concelmo would say: Amazing!
I wish there was a way to walk around and get into random encounters. I came, google is a pretty cool bro. Now all we need is the full version that is demonstrated in the video, for the demo is to vanilla for my tastes. 8:30 PM on 04.03.2013 Dragon Quest X Wii U opening sales are really badSquare Enix expressed disappointment a couple months ago with the performance of Dragon Quest X on Wii, despite the MMO outpacing the sales and subscription retention of Final Fantasy XI, the most profitable FF ever. 12:30 PM on 12.05.2012 Dragon Quest X on Wii U will use cloud savesWorried about storage space? Don't be. The latest Nintendo Direct tells us that Dragon Quest X will use the cloud to hold saves for this MMO, according to Inside Games. So, no messing with silly external USB storage, especially for those that have the 8GB standard Wii U system. A new Japanese trailer also surfaced from this morning's event. It looks beautiful! Enjoy.
