Google celebrates Tetris' 25th anniversary like Google can photo

Ok, I'm sure you are all sick of all my coverage of Tetris this E3. Hey, it's not my fault the game is 25 years old (older than me!), and everybody wants to make a big deal about it. I mean, who do you know who has not played the game?

Obviously, Google has played Tetris. In celebration for today's silver anniversary of the block-busting game, Google has changed the front page logo to something recognizable to gamers everywhere. Alexey Pajitnov, creator of Tetris, commented (courtesy PR release, of course):

“This is a huge honor for all of us at Tetris. We are exceedingly grateful to Google for such a meaningful global salute.  Both Google and TETRIS share important qualities that bring people around the world together.  Both Google and TETRIS transcend culture and fulfill a universal desire for order.”

Well, congratulations Tetris! Since the game's original release, the Soviet Union has fallen, Paris Hilton has become cultural figurehead of a generation, and games about slumber parties and gardening have become a normality. We wish you another great 25 years!

Happy birthday Tetris! Question: Which, between Tetris and Google, is more known amongst the 6 billion inhabiting this planet? I'm tempted to say Tetris.

*When I say "more known" I mean how many people know what it is, rather than how many people have played Tetris or visited Google etc.*

It's official. Tetris will NEVER go out of fashion. I can't think of any other game that is still popular after that many decades.

Happy B-Day, Tetris! You and the GameBoy helped me lay some serious smack down on my fellow elementary school classmates back in the day.

Today is the day we all remember when the tetrominoes stormed the beaches of Normandy.

I love that logo. We all are anticipating the L dropping into place and clearing four lines at once.

Wow didn't realize it was that long ago. I remember playing it against friends on the Game Boy in 8th grade. Man what would I have given for bluetooth back then and not the cable.

I happen to be good friends with both Henk and Alexey, and the story behind Tetris is really one of those "one in a million" occurrences. Alexey was literally stuck behind the iron curtain, and this simple little game he wrote based on a Russian board game, brought him instant international attention and many game companies trying to buy him out. The only problem was at that time all intellectual properties were stilled owned by the USSR, so he had no right to the game he created. Thankfully, due to the collapse of the Soviet Union, Alexey and Tetris were able to "escape" to the west.

It would have been really cool if they could have announced an English release of Tetris The Grandmaster ACE.

Wheres the 25th Anniversary Tetris MMORPG? I mean I know Tetris has been on almost every major console handheld since its come out but I'm surprised they haven't tried stupid shit ideas like that yet. It stays for the most part in its purest form.
