Out of context, I like this ad. I don't know the first thing about tap dancing or jazz, so I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a famous person I should be impressed with. But it's hip, energetic, and shot extremely well. In fact, I think it's a great commercial for an iPod or a pair of new Levi's Jeans. Brilliant.
However, this is the next big PS3 commercial. I have absolutely no idea why somebody thought this would be an effective way to sell a high definition video game console in light of the cool new features coming in 2007. This is right up there with guys painting sloppy little dots on canvas or close-up photos of hairy scrotums and calling it art. Sure, it's art -- the crappy kind that art teachers and no-talent hippies make.
Can someone do some hipster translation and justify this ad's existence? Who can you imagine pulling out their wallets after watching this?
Yanier "Niero" Gonzalez is Destructoid's founder and guy-in-the-helmet.After 2,000+ stories posted and years of starting trouble on the front page he's now busy behind the scenes building the future of Destructoid. His story is our motto: "Living The Dream".
i think that would have been good for those Aquafina commercials. just have him drink water and whatnot. but this has nothing to do with video games, not even close. Sony is fucking retarded. Go watch the Tiger Woods gold commercial for the Wii. THAT is how you advertise a product. "this is living" shit is fucking retarded and it isn't making anybody want a PS3. at least, i hope not. If i ever meet the guy that says we wanted a PS3 after he saw some dude dancing around with drumstick i promise you, i WILL punch him in the face.
ok, i did it, i made my rant, i just couldn't resist.
1) Anyone notice that the ad is titled "Dancing Bubba"?
2) No idea what they're really getting at with this angle. I mean . . . if the guy was rendered realtime on the PS3, then yeah, sure . . .but . . . yeah. They're not selling me on anything.
Head Honcho: Ok guys is time to do the PS3 ad, ideas?
...
Bill: -Lets show them a black guy tap dancing and saying "this is living!" at the end.
The entire Staff in the table does the "WTF?" face and start looking at each other. Finally Head honcho Goes:
-Uh?
Bill: -Well, is either that or tell them our console is 540 euros, has only 3 good games and is 91.6% less backward compatible than the American PS3, thats like... 1 game out of 12 runs.
Is it just me, or this has something has to do with the PS3 being Black?
If you see that again the frame of the door behind the guy dancing looks like the rectancle formed by the standing up console. Also is dancing on top of the table a place where you would suposedly place the console.
Sony Are you trying to imply the PS3 is live a black guy tap dancing in my desktop?
Sony I thought we've had this talk about racism before? Why Sony why?!
Ahahahahahahahahahahaha....
Anyways, if I didn't know any better I'd expect this to be a vodka, viagra, or condom commercial. Possibly something else, but those are the top 3 that come to my mind.
The mere fact that dtoid has posted about this television commercial before it comes out, and thousands of people are reading about it, justifies its existence in a way, no?
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Maybe you'll be able to dance like that in Home.
It was ok until he spoke.

Seriously, they need to fire the guy who makes these.
