Good Old Games now offers Myst, Riven coming soon photo

It was a little surprising to hear that Good Old Games hadn't offered any of the Myst games as a download prior to today, because it's exactly the type of classic you think of when you hear someone describe what GOG.com is all about.

As of now, Myst: Masterpiece Edition can be had in exchange for $5.99. The follow-up Riven and The Manhole: Masterpiece Edition will be available in the coming weeks for the same affordable price.

Seeing as how every post we do on GOG ends up getting comments about how people haven't heard of the site before, let it be known: for all of your DRM-free gaming needs, look no further. If we had a seal of approval, this service would so get one.

Oh, Myst. Now there's a game I have always been tremendously good at not beating. It's as if I'm gazing into one of those autostereograms, trying different tricks with my eyes to see the sailboat, but it just never happens.

Whoa, Myst. I haven't seen that one forever. That game is a trip out.

Save for a few old LucasArts titles that I was too young to appreciate, Myst was the first PC game I ever played.

I will be buying Manhole. I haven't played that game in probably 17 or 18 years. I can't wait!

I actually didn't play Myst until middle school in 2000. After that, I suddenly got bit by the adventure craze and was reminded of all the LucasArts classics I had in 4th grade (1998). Myst was an amazing experience and something I'm proud to say I've played, even if Riven sucked and Myst 3 was a bit disappointing.

I remember trying to play Myst when I was very very young- I was absolutely terrible at it, but I loved the atmosphere of the world.

The Manhole was another game I really wanted to get into, but I couldn't find a computer that it would work on. Funny thing, technology...

I remember playing and beating Myst in high school. Fun & odd game. Then I remember being excited for Riven, but the cut scenes made our computer cry out in pain. But those first few choppy seconds of being underwater...wow!

Memories.

The Myst series! I used to love those games! I could never beat the first one though. I should try again soon.

These games were terrible when they were new, why would anyone want to waste their time with them now let alone PAY to waste their time?

I'd rather they got Myst 3D working. I'm too lazy to figure that piece of shit out. Amazing concept. Terrible support.

@ hpv

Because not everyone agree with you? SHOCK.

Myst was awesome, never played the sequels because I went hardcore FPS gamer for a long time. I plan to rectify that with these releases.

Myst was great, but Riven blew me away. The lateral nature of many of the puzzles (MILD SPOILER: Remember the cave shaped like an animal?) left you with a huge sense of accomplishment when you solved them. So well crafted.

The other big plus about GOG (other than no DRM) is that they're updated to work on XP, Vista, and 7. I don't think it would be a problem with Myst, as it's relatively recent, but it's really useful for some older games.

I played through Myst with my older sister when I was 9. We absolutely loved it. Riven is also quite awesome. I might have to download that one when it comes out, as it'll be nice to play it without swapping between 5 CDs all the time.

All you need to know is that there are no compatibility issues with Quicktime and NO SWAPPING CDs FOR RIVEN.

NO SWAPPING CDS.

NO S-W-A-P-P-I-N-G.
