Good Old Games gets Psychonauts, Advent Rising, and more photo

Majesco Entertainment is the latest company to get in on the Good Old Games action. What does it mean for us? Surprisingly good things.

Available now completely free of DRM are Psychonauts ($9.99) and Advent Rising ($5.99). Alongside BloodRayne and BloodRayne 2, more Majesco games will be appearing on GOG in the near future.

Anthony's Games that time forgot article on Advent Rising (excuse the formatting; old post is old) always made me want to play the game, but as usual, I never got around to it. The chance to do so for six bucks without leaving the house? Sounds easy enough.

I remember when Advent Rising was touted as this EPIC that was going get the trilogy route.

The notable frame-rate drops made me return it the same day I picked it up.

Nevermind I lied I was thinking of Indigo Prophecy (Don't ask how I got those mixed up). Advent Rising was decent and just left me wanting a damn sequel that improved on the original.

Damn, I was very loyal too GOG before I got hooked to Steam, and they already had it in first place. I feel very conflicted.

Advent Rising is one of those games I wish they could remake with current gen hardware. I enjoyed it despite frame rate drops & few glitches that prevented events from loading.

Oh and Metal Arms needs to be on current hardware, or even a sequel. Who owns the IP rights to that?

First I've heard of this website. I browsed through it, but most of the content was compatible only with Windows. Can someone more familiar with the site tell me, does it have any Mac-friendly downloads?

Advent Rising is my personal favourite game ever - a luck out on system hardware and timing meant that I played it on PC and with pretty much zero frustrations. Fairly decent story, great weapon and ability set and minor RPG/Roguelike Stat acquisition lead to a superb game. The Bloodrayne games are also great and the second game is criminally underrated for being a vast improvement over the original. It's basically a brawler/third person shooter what more could you want?!

Psychonauts is a good "old" game?

...not that I'm complaining. I've bought it twice and I'll probably buy it again.

I love the way the games are DRM free. I print them up on disks, and feel like I actually own them, like a console game. No, you need to be plugged in, or any of that limited install crap.

Oh Psychonauts. You gave me such joy. Lung fish city still to this day makes me smile when I think about it.

Psychonauts is a must play. Advent Rising was suppose to be a big hit but apparently the control scheme sunk the game.

@ninjalegend:

That's exactly why I support them whenever I can. I've even bought games from them that I still have on disc to support them and to get rid of the DRM.

Just when I started to get curious about Psychonauts, I couldn't find a single copy! This is a great chance for me.

Well, Psychonauts is available for free on GameTap, so you could always try it out there.

On the other hand, scratch that last sentence - it's always better to support GOG.

Great game and GOG is awesome... I'm a little sad I already got it on Steam, would have loved to have the DRM free. *Sigh*, maybe if they get some more cool bonus content.

@reindall - how does this free Psychonauts work? Don't you need to pay a monthly fee to use GameTap (so ending your service with GameTap means no more games)?

It's such a good game and for $10 you should just get it DRM Free and you'll be able to play it over and over again.

@jack8274 - lungfishopolis (is that right?) is greatest moments in video games... run for your lives, here comes gogolor (sp?)

P.S. My milk is delicious

@Jeckyll007 - I don't really use GameTap, but as far as I understand they have some packages which you can subscribe to, and you are able to play any game in a given package. Psychonauts is in a free package, so ultimately you don't have to pay anything for it. But still, I recommend getting it for peanuts from GOG.
