How about the bad news first? I was wrong and community member The Average Guy was right; Capcom and Nintendo wont be selling Tatsunoko Vs Capcom at the launch party on Jan 23rd at the Nintendo World Store in NYC. I guess that makes it more of a pre-launch party. How nervy.
The good news is, Capcom will be giving plenty of copies of the game away for free, so you can still try to get it early. The difference is, you'll need luck, not money, to make that happen. That's even better, right? You can try to get the game for free, but keep your pre-order in place just in case, and you've got nothing to lose. Personally, I'm just as excited for the event as ever. Then again, I'm hopefully going to have a review copy of the game in my hands before the 23rd anyway.
OK, enough passive aggressive smug-guy gaming journalist bragging, hit the jump for the latest press release for the event.

But in all serious, that's pretty lame. At least that there is a chance to get the game there. Although now it doesn't even matter, because I found out that I can't go. Looks like I'm going to have to get my friends to snag a free copy of the game, and hopefully I can buy it off of them or something (although I doubt it).
BTW, you wouldn't happen to know how to obtain said free copies, would you? I'm almost certain that you would probably be able to get it via the competition, and there would probably either be a quiz or a giveaway to the first X people there.
But you all have fun at your party...
@ The Average Guy- I'm not sure how they're going to give the copies away. I assume it will be by raffle, quiz, and/or tournament. Or maybe they'll change their mind at the last minute and sell them.
I'll see what I can find out.
That desert also grows a vast majority of your food. Meaning without us, you coasters don't eat. But aside from that, e have a huge amount of larger cities such as Atlanta Georgia, Chicago, St. Louis... and there are just as many of us in the middle as there are on the coasts.
My issue is the assumption of these companies saying "Well, wanna be a true gamer? Drive for 14 hours read about it on the internet." Which is funny considering just how many companies ARE located in the midwest. You'd think they could rent a hotel conference room for a weekend and do some sort of convention... music industry doesn't seem to have a problem finding us.
And on that note, what about Canada? There are TONS of studios opening up or relocating there as well yet Canadian Press typically still goes to California...
And what is the deal with airplane food anyway? It's not a plane and it's hard to call it food, what IS the deal?
Ever look at that map of the world where little lights represent population for different areas?
Yeah, the middle of the US is the dimmest part of the US.
I'm not knockin' on ya (since you obviously can't take a joke as evidenced by the response to Sean Boyle's post), but companies know where the population is and they hold these evens in those places.
Launch parties in New York get bigger attendance, bigger media exposure, and make the news across more NATIONWIDE media outlets.
Oh, and by the way, both Atlanta and Chicago have HUGE fighting game scenes and get TONS of game company support and feedback from those cities. ATL and Chi Town have had plenty of launch events, just not likely for games you play.
I thought I threw enough jokes in my response to show that I wasn't taking this seriously. I mean I called him "coaster" and mentioned airline food. Do I need a Sarcasm.gif somewhere?
At least, only when these things happen.
