Golgoth working on Data East IP after Toki remake photo

Any studio who can so brilliantly capture the essence of a retro game and bring it into the modern era -- without going overboard -- like Golgoth is doing with Toki is fine by me. In an interview with GameSetWatch, the developer explains what it was like to tackle such a project, which is a good read in and of itself.

More interesting to me, however, was the mention of Golgoth's next game. On the quest to find Toki's license holder, the studio was offered to take a look at some Data East IPs from a Japanese company called G-mode. Sure enough, the developer signed an agreement to produce another game.

All we know is that it's A) a co-op platformer and B) an "old" Data East license. My initial reaction was that it must be Joe & Mac, and upon finding out that G-mode does indeed own the license to that game, I'm willing to bet that's the next project for Golgoth.

Joe & Mac was pretty good, even if I enjoyed the sequel Lost in the Tropics considerably more. Just thinking about what some of the old sprites would look like after these guys get their hands on them has got me all hot and bothered.

Man, this was one of my first SNES games. Dad and I would play the hell out of this all the time. I'm all for this if it's true.

There's approximately no chance of this, but I would die happy if the next game they did was Spinmasters. When I was little, my family went to the same resort every year for vacation, and they had a NeoGeo machine with KOF 94 and Spinmasters. Me and my buddy spent so many quarters on Spinmasters (and also The Simpsons). I miss that game...

This game was the one time my grandpa and I ever played video games together. I was 7, in the arcades, and it was playable on a sitdown unit with a gigantic display. He never touched games before, but he was fucking awesome at it, went through the whole thing. Really vivid memory, hadn't thought about it for ages...sorry if that's irrelevant lol, the header image just hit me like a ton of bricks.

Great, now I've got the first level music stuck in my head just from looking at that picture. Man, that'd be awesome if they did a new Joe and Mac.

I fucking love joe and mac. I had to go into my fathers office to play the demo that came with PC format because it needed either 2 or 4 meg of ram. Very high end.

I'd support this if it's true. Joe and Mac was a really forgotten and underrated title.
