GoldenEye 64 multiplayer maps coming to Perfect Dark XBLA photo

Okay, so GoldenEye 007 may never truly come to Xbox Live Arcade, but it seems that Rare has found a very nice workaround. Multiplayer maps and weapons from the classic Bond shooter will be coming to Perfect Dark XBLA, effectively emulating the GoldenEye experience without having to finagle a license from Nintendo's legal department. Clever girl.

The maps and weapons were actually part of the original Perfect Dark when it launched on the Nintendo 64. Microsoft's Ken Lobbs confirmed that these bonuses will be returning when Perfect Dark re-releases on Xbox Live, taking us as close to GoldenEye as we can get without a release of the real game.

Perfect Dark is released on March 17 and will cost a cool 800 Moon Dollars.

They mentioned this in Rey's interview, as well as the trailer. Great stuff, I'm glad to see Rare hasn't forgotten about good ol' fashioned fanservice. While I'll still miss Goldeneye's single player in HD, I always have my 64 if I need a fix that badly.

Can't wait for this, especially at only 800 sillymonies.

Will ALL GoldenEye weapons be in it? Including the Golden Gun and the Moonraker Lasers?

Those were nice, frantic and inventive maps back in '97 and '98. They are interesting at best today, I just like Perfect Dark the game, let's hope it aged well because the graphics are irrelevant.

"effectively emulating the GoldenEye experience without having to finagle a license from Nintendo's legal department."

Ah, don't forget Activision. They're the ones who owns the rights to James Bond games right now, so I'm sure they have some say in it as well!

Anybody know if they're talking about the original multiplayer maps that were there on the N64? Or have they included ALL of the maps now?

@PEICanada7: EA and MGM would like a word with you.

Also, this is the closest we're gonna get to GoldenEye64, so let's gobble this up.

@bigmoose85 fail troll is fail.

So they announced that stuff that was in the game originally is going to be included?

I was hoping for a return of ALL the maps.

so in fact it will have no new maps besides the ones in the N64 cartridge me see very tricky writing going on to make people believe things that are not much to be going crazy over.

it is only going to be the 007 maps that were already in the game and the 007 weapons that were again, ALREADY IN THE GAME.

Retrofaction nailed it. This did not need to be written since we already assumed all of this. If these games were going to be TAKEN OUT of the port, that would be worth mentioning (and make me sad).

Both here and Kotaku make it ambiguous as to whether or not there will be new content or just the same shit that already existed in PD.

If there's nothing new, then why tell us? It's not like we forgot about those 3 maps and 8ish weapons. We need some clarification here.

What are people going on about? Ken mentioned this in the interview that were posted on Dtoid like a week ago? ^^ I guess any reason to make a PD post is a good enough reason though ;) <3

Yea I'm not sure why this is news...the original Perfect Dark already had these things anyway. I guess "The Klobb" is still trying to get his head in the spotlight for anything he can.

I don't know if you have a 360 or not, but if you think "old ass N64 games" are all MS can come up with, you're out of the fucking loop.

Sir, I can't tell you how happy I am that you use 'clever girl'. I adore that phrase and use it constantly. Easily the most quotable movie in recent history.

Also, this news is fantastic. I only ever played Goldeneye's multiplayer. It was my first true party game.

yeah, as it's been said multiple times already, those maps and weapons already were in the game... :-/

perfect dark was fun as hell, though. it was the first game i remember where you could have bots in your multiplayer, and fairly decent bots, at that. i'm excited for some old-school, 007-type matchmaking over XBL!!!

Wow, this is amazing. It makes me wonder if they will at least try to do a graphical upgrade or leave it in the N64 polygons.

This is brilliant. I wonder how they got around the rights issues -- presumably Nintendo owns at least some portion of the games that get released on their old consoles?
