Golden Sun sequel confirmed as fake, tears flow like wine photo

Recently, the Internet spawned a rumor amidst all the excitement of E3 that a sequel to the heavily under-appreciated Golden Sun series was coming to the Nintendo DS. Like fish on those tiny, delicious fishflakes Joystiq, GoNintendo and other sites pounced, working furiously to spread the news as quickly as their tiny, malformed hands could. That night, their heads filled with gumdrops and thoughts of handheld RPG action, many children went to bed happy. Sadly, as is so often the case, those children were all idiots.

Vooks.net -- Australia's answer to descending from criminals and rapists -- has an interview up with the perpetrator of the hoax, a member of their own forums, a fellow who goes by the obtusely ironic name 'Opium'. It seems that Mr. Opium created the clever faςade to convince Nintendo that the series had a large fanbase and that we actually want to see more Golden Sun titles.

I'd like to say he's a jerk, or some other form of condemnation, but I totally agree with the guy, and obviously his rumor was convincing enough to attract the attentions of people whose eyes have glazed over from years of photovoltaic abuse. Golden Sun is almost completely forgotten in light of all the Final Fantasy's and Dragon Quest's, and in a world where the most striking thing about Nintendo's E3 showing was the same technology they employed in the Power Pad, that's truly a shame.

The Golden Sun games were some of the best RPGs I have ever played on the GBA(or any handheld for that matter). So it drives me nuts that we have yet to see a GS 3...

That was perhaps the dickish attempt at doing good work I've ever seen.

At least there's still hope for Platinum Sun.

I hadn't heard this rumour before now so it doesn't come as too much of a shock.

However, there has been a void in my heart for many years since Golden Sun: The Lost Age came out an only a third game in the series can fill it.

Plus, how can there not be a GS game on the DS or the Wii?

The control methods are ideal for casting Psynergy IMO.

Nintendo need to get their act together.

I'd rather have Golden Sun 3 than 95% of the stuff that was shown at E3 this year. Hopefully it sticks to GBA/DS when it finally does arrive.

Should I be hating him to death, or supporting him for showing Nintendo that there needs to be a goddam Golden Sun 3?

Eat a bag of Djinns and die you bastard! (Except replace Djinns with cocks).

How dare he lie on the most scared of internets!

Wow, that's a damned shame - I'm glad this rumor didn't get to me haha. Golden Sun ranks up there with FF4 and 6 for me. I was astounded when I first played it.

Golden Sun was awesome. But I got bored of the second half in like 20 minutes. Could be to do with my sudden realisation of the futility of turn based combat.

Turn based combat owns all.

It's my preferred combat system for any RPG i play.

Loved the first two, so I really hope there will be a second. While this guy is a dick for hoaxing us all, I have to admit it did stir interest up for the franchise again (I've seen numerous threads and articles across the internet) so maybe someday we'll get our sequel.....

Turn based combat, while not always the most exciting, can still make for a great game. I loved how GS worked with AoEs, that was probably one of the best magic systems I've seen in a long time. I wish more games utilized it.

I have to say, Magic systems can really get on my nerves sometimes but I did like the GS one.

Turn based combat can be good and it was fun for a time but now I kinda feel I'm more detatched. I like to name the main character after myself sometimes and it feels more like I am ordering a character around rather than being them.

Systems like FF12 changed that slightly. It's still navigating menus but you had to work at times to keep yourself alive and there was more of a sence of urgency. Turn based also feels less involving nowdays to me. Who takes it in turns to be hit? Ok so that's only a little, less serious, thing but I do feel kinda helpless and frustrated when I've just realised I've selected the wrong thing and I have to wait an entire turn to rectify my situation.

I have loads of fond memories from turn based games it's just I guess I'm getting a little tired of it is all.

For some reason, I was struck with a deep and lasting resentment of golden sun. I still completed it, but only because there was absolutely nothing else for me to do at the time. I don't know why I disliked it so much, but I really did.

@Rosseh:

You could name your main character whatever you wanted as well as every other member of your party if you input the right button combo at the naming screen for your main character.
