Going outside is so last-gen; fishing is better left indoors photo

After witnessing the fine art of fishing in Twilight Princess and then getting a taste of what the experience could be like on Nintendo's hardware, it was only a matter of time before somebody released yet another fishing game for the Wii. Thanks to Aksys Games, you'll be able to put those childhood skills of yours (you did go outside at one time, didn't you?) to good use using the Wiimote.

EB Games has the game listed on their Web site for $59.99, and it's slated for a September 3rd release. So why the extra $10 for a Wii game, you ask? Well it seems that Hooked: Real Motion Fishing comes with a controller -- or more like some sort of Wiimote/Nunchuck encasing, if you look at the picture closely.  Nonetheless, the game promises to enthrall you with six different realistic lakes in which you can try your hand at reeling in the big one.

If the three single-player modes start to get blasé, Hooked promises the chance to take your tackle box to greater heights with Wi-Fi enabled multiplayer fun. Hit the jump for the full details from the press release.

Hooked! Real Motion Fishing Features:

  • The only fishing game on the Wii with online multiplayer!
Challenge the best virtual fishermen around the world via online Wi-Fi play.
  • Immerse yourself in the fight with realistic fishing controls!
You’ll be working up a sweat as you lean your Wii Remote in every possible direction, all the while, reeling the Nunchuk like crazy to catch the big one. It’s as if you have a rod and reel right in your hands!
  • A wide range of fishing environments!
Explore 6 photorealistic lakes, from a meteorite crater turned lake to a man-made recreational reservoir.
3 exciting single-player gameplay modes!
Hone your skills in Practice or Time Attack mode. Then take on Tournament mode to see if you can become the next world champion!

Now you can ridicule your elders when they talk about how they had to walk several miles to school in the snow, without shoes. Well maybe not, but you can tell politely tell them that all that expensive fishing equipment is hardly necessary with modern technology. Armed with a Wiimote, you may never need to go outside again -- well, at least not to go fishing.

Is that attachment not just a little bit retarded?

Interesting, but I doubt it can top Sega Bass Fishing/Sega Marine Fishing + controller for the Dreamcast. And I wonder if you can try to snag other online players with your fishing hook...

Since I don't play actual Wii games as much as I'd like (virtual console has all the goodies), I will give this a fair shake when it comes out. Who knows, I might fall in love with fishing all over again.

Sega Bass Fishing was one of the best games I've ever played. I worked at Gameworks when it hit arcades and this was the only thing I played other than our Puzzle Bobble machine and Crazy Taxi. The Dreamcast port was a fantastic adaptation of it and one of the first motion reacting games I'd ever played on a home console. It had some weight sensor that could pick up "casting" movements and it worked accordingly.

If this can come halfway close to that I'm sold. I hope it just doesn't suck like Rapala did.

Why not take it one step further? Have the game connected via the internets to your local fish monger. When you catch a virtual fish, you have the option of having the same species and approximate weight fish shipped to you the same day. Ahhhh.. the future.

My idea of "realistic" has changed ever since I got my 360. Sorry, Wii.

Seeing as how the first wii fishing game sucked hardcore, I'd be more than willing to try this, and yes Sega made the best fishing games.

@buck

What fishing pole do you use where you have dual analog sticks? I wanna go watch you catch a fish.

dvddesign, I was referring to the "six different realistic lakes in which you can try your hand at reeling in the big one".

Actually doing the fishing motion is definitely more realistic than using dual analogs. I totally agree with you there.

Y'know, I think I'd rather actually go fishing, but that's just me thinking outside the box again.

Also, I really enjoy real fishing.

No gravity well on the end of the rod to make it heavier when you hook a fish?

Come on guys THIS IS THE FUTURE WE ARE TALKING ABOUT HERE.

Videogame Fishing:
Your hands stay clean
You will undoubtedly catch something
You won't have to wait as long to catch something

Real fishing:
Worms, brier patches, hooks stuck in trees
The fish sometimes ignore you
It sometimes takes a while to catch something

Admittedly, real fishing is more relaxing and is a good way to bond with fellow brethren, but videogame fishing does have a few high points. I, myself, prefer real fishing and getting dirty and waiting around enjoying myself, but I can see where others might not.

I think you all are forgetting the most important part. Real fishing gives you real fish, which = real food. Poor college students support reality!

(but if they would send me the fish I caught in this game, it would probably be the coolest game since toejam and earl.)

The same people who are buying this game have the hunting game, where instead of actual spending anytime outdoors, shooting a buck between the eyes, you do it virtually. These are the same people who have the 'I'd Rather Be Fishing' bumper sticker, and 'Get 'Er Done' tattooed on their left butt cheek. I dunno if any real gamers are going to be scoping this one out. For more than three seconds at least.

Eh, I enjoy fishing. I've never been hunting. I don't own any bumper stickers and I hate all of the people you are talking about. Nice to see you are so adept at stereotyping, though.
