Going back to Silent Hill: Shattered Memories interview photo

Ah, Silent Hill. We've joked about it, gotten hands on time with it, and speculated about what we think a "reimagining" of one of the most classic survival horror games of all time could be like. After all, whether Shattered Memories is a straight remake or a completely different story using a familiar character, Silent Hill fans are notoriously hard to please (and I say this out of personal experience).

We got a chance at E3 to meet with Ray Hiyoshi, Konami's Product Manager, to find a out a bit more about what makes Shattered Memories tick, including why the team chose to focus on escape rather than combat, what they're going for with the idea of a reimagining, and why we're going to be scared to death when we can finally get our hands on it later this year. Hit the jump to check out the full video!

When you played the game did the enemies automatically begin to chase you in particular sections? I would grow tired if every time there are enemies they automatically begin to chase your character and it's just constant "run run run". Being able to sneak by and avoid some would be nice, more tense and may give you more time to actually take in your surroundings.

I like what I'm seeing. I wonder if they will remake Silent Hill 2?

Yes, best person to do this interview!
I am interested, mainly because of the fact they are putting emphasis on survival and not action. Not a fan of horror games now, manly because of the action bit, and the part where the dogs make me shit myself.

Wait, did he just say that this is coming out for the Wii, PS2 and PS3!?

Hell yes. Now I just need to decide, do I want the Wii waggle control, or the PS3 graphics.

No, he said Wii, PS2 and PSP. There is no PS3 version.

I'm excited about this, but I'm still not so sure about the lack of combat. Sure, Harry's a regular guy, so I understand why he's not fighting back with guns - but wouldn't a regular guy grab something to use as a weapon against horrifying monsters? I know I'd at least grab a broom or a rock or something.

The wii controller needs a little more work unresponsive when played. You have to throw the enemies away.

Meh. Ever since Team Silent stopped making them, the series has seemingly gone downhill. No thank you. I will just take my Silent Hills 1-through-3 and be on my way now.

Climax did a good job with Origins, and their ideas for Shattered Memories are very interesting. The problem is all the fans will keep crying for a Silent Hill 2.2 and for the same thing over and over... thanks God, Climax and Konami won´t listen.
