God of War III is too violent for the Internet, Sony says photo

The Internet is home to videos where a man shatters a mason jar inside his own rectum, and yet Sony has the nerve to tell us that God of War III is too extreme for the Internet. Unless Kratos defecates into a cup and starts eating it while fisting the Numa Numa guy, I think Sony is taking the piss.

Nevertheless, Sony is claiming that current game images are simply too graphic for any gaming news site to post, thanks in part to new technology that puts independent intestines inside of character models, allowing them to freely spill everywhere once Kratos disembowels them. This little trick is known as "Zipper Technology," which is really quite vivid once you think about it.

Zipper Tech was due to be shown off in a new GoW III trailer, but Sony apparently cut it after deciding we couldn't handle the brutality. Come on Sony, we're hardcore gamers -- we've witnessed every sordid sex act ever to be performed in front of a camera, and stared, mouth agape, at pictures of what may or may not be Hitler's corpse. We can handle a few digital pooptubes, methinks.

In other news, I need to play this game.

Independantly modelled organs. That's crazy.

So many things I've seen on the internet that I wish I could un-see...emotional scarring aside, GoW should be pretty awesome. The second seemed to be lacking a little something, not sure what is was, but the first one and Chains of Olympus were rather captivating.

hahahahahahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhahahahaha!

Also, I'm just coming to the end of Chains Of Olympus on PSP... Man, that game makes my palms sweat late at night in bed. It's intense, as close to a violent wank as I am getting at the mo without a violent wank.

Is this relevant?

inb4 the video comes out and kratos really is shitting in a cup (and eating it) while fisting the numa numa guy (who is actually the last boss of the game).

Honestly, I agree with Sony on this. While worse stuff exists on the Internet, doesn't mean it should be there. I don't think their stance is in reference to what can be found on the Internet, but what should be found on the Internet.

So they've invented Soldier of Fortune's Ghoul engine, 10 years later.
Alrighty then.

I'm thinking they don't want the mainstream press getting ahold of their "too violent" images and demonizing the game so far ahead of release... Maybe save the publicity of manufactured outrage 'til closer to launch? I've been wrong before though, they could really just be thinking of the children. THE CHILDREN!!!

Oldest PR tick in the book: talk about how awesome your product is, refuse to show divulge more info because it is too awesome to handle, people talk about it.

I think it's a little PR trickery, as Zombiekiller said, and also a bit of them having some standards. If it really is exceptionally graphic, it's one thing to put it in a game with an "M" on the front and another to toss it out onto the internet where anyone can see it. The Last House on the Left, either old or new version, trailers are also light on the really horrible content of the movie.

I think movie producers that do that are than worse than scum. Taking my cousins and little sisters to watch Prince Caspian, rated pg, and explain to my aunt and mother why they were scared for life.

I for one can't wait to see it and love the God of War games.

What dissapoints me is that typically when you are told you can't see it yet for reasons like these its because it isn't working up to snuff, which also means it might not make it.

Peter Molynuex I'm looking at you.

Yea I want to see what they are talking about, but if its as bad as they say it is and the mainstream press gets a hold of it and runs with it it'll end badly. With talk recently in, Germany was it, about banning violent video games and then this ultra gore video comes out of GOW3 I could only imagine how some news outlets would handle it. All you would need is one gang stabbing to get the fuckwit poloticians all over it.

I guess they just want to wait until after the game is released for all the sordid images to overtake youtube. I have to admit their PR thingy worked because after reading this I'm suddenly interested in seeing this played.

Do they honestly think that we'll believe that?
Please, Sony, you're making a farce of yourself. You should give your fans at least a little credit.

Sony has been treating their fans like retards ever since the announcement of the PS2... Geez, this is the sorriest attempt at hype that I've seen in the past year.
