With the launch of God of War III the story of Kratos is coming to an end, and while Sony has already stated that it isn't the end of the franchise it is the end of this particular tale. One would conclude that Sony already has the crack team of game developers that brought us the trilogy hard at work on their next game -- whatever that is. One would conclude incorrectly. The team has no idea what they're doing next.
In an interview God of War III Senior Producer Steve Caterson said, "I have no idea (what is next)! I just finished three years of my life on God of War III and seven years on the God of War series -- I have kids younger than that! We're excited to work on large projects but it's not a decision that's made flippantly and we're going to take our time with it. The only game I had the chance to play through the past few years was Dead Space; there are other games that have released that I want to have a chance to sit down and have those experiences! Actually playing some of those great games out there and seeing what other developers are doing… I'm looking forward to it – that's the best part of finishing a game!”
Fair enough. I suppose it's a good idea for game developers to actually play videogames. But seriously, what about the next God of War game, Steve? "Well, God of War III is the end of the trilogy," he said. We didn't leave you on a cliffhanger but I think it's not the end of the franchise. I'm looking forward to doing something different if we can. It also might be nice to return to the franchise if we can and bring all that knowledge back from wherever we go. Anything's possible. It's premature to say what it might be, since I don't even know what I'll be doing next week!"

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
5 million copies ge they will greenligt another story arc.
Agree, they made a fantastic new franchise for the PS2, they should be able to do the same for the PS3
But not with Kratos. Bring me back Ragnar in RUNE III! RUNE is my alltime fav when it comes to dark, dirty Hack n Slay. GOW is cool but with its over the top action its like Pop to me.
However, since GoW has become a billion-dollar franchise, pragmatism dictates that regardless of what the writers and creators had in mind, Sony will make sure that Kratos gets milked for all he's worth in future games to come.
Norse mythology would be cool to try in a game, but try to not make stuff up as you go along. That was GoW's biggest mistake.
seriously.
LOL
They're obviously extremely talented. Try to tackle something else.
Make Kratos the villain in the next series and have the protagonist trying to take him out.
Calm down. It's gotten to the point that when you say something good about a game, I tend to pay attention to that game less just because it's you that said something about it.
As for the article, I've never played any God of War games, so I don't know what to say about the company. I'd like to see a spinoff, though -- Maybe playing as someone fighting against Kratos for the same titles he's earned?
But Kratos? He's fought the gods. Everywhere you go from there is a step down on the excitement meter. You peaked.
I love the first two God Of Wars, I hold them inside as the best of the best when it comes to action games even to this day and have little doubt in 3 being great, as well.
But let it lie. End the series on a high note. Let the games remain as they are and live on as classics, but end it here.
Last thing I want is to see God Of War 4: More Of The Same.
Sony isn't Microsoft, so there is a chance they move on and create new IP. MilkItSoft would make an RTS out of it.
Should Play Into Fanboy's Flaring Yodels.
Yep. Acronyms are my bitch.
We get it, hardock and Patriot Snake. God of War 3 is a good game. Hell, I don't recall seeing a single person 360 or otherwise saying it's not on this post. Do you really have to turn it into a console war?
That being said, I hope my PS3 gets back in time for me to play this. This was one of the prime reasons why I bought a PS3 to go alongside my 360.
That said, I would love to be proven wrong here and have Sony encourage the developers to create an entirely new IP.
I'll just file this in with Resident Evil 6...
Next up Gow4 kratos & Marty Mcfly try to save his parents marriage. Rated M
