When I think of shrimp-like aliens who have been oppressed by South Africans, I'm always reminded of Spartan warriors who perform assassination missions for ancient Gods. This is why District 9 and God of War III are a match made in Heaven, with the Blu-ray version of the critically acclaimed movie containing a demo for 2010's big PS3 exclusive.
District 9 is out on Blu-ray on December 29, and God of War III's demo will be packed onto the very same disc. Completion of the demo will unlock a God of War III "making of" featurette. Yes, we know, there is absolutely no discernible link between District 9 and God of War III, but who cares? This is Sony doing what Sony does best -- showing off.
So, if you're not planning to get God of War Collection, this is an alternative for you.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Inglorious Basterds for the win.
You mean a movie that grew out of a short film that Blomkamp made 4 years ago?
"We shall offer it with a free sample of MEAT PIZZA!"
I don't get it, but sure.
I think I'll pass on both.
This has only cemented my intent to purchase.
Jolly good show, must just appeal to the same audience/demographic.
it's funny you say that, and to add on the the Halo movie fail, D-9 was distributed by TriStar who is owned by Sony.
And seeing as how Sony is kaning 90% of the profit on the MJ cash grab "This Is It" we'll probably see a demo of Heavy Rain with the Blu-Ray release of that.
@ Toneman
"That's like how Crackdown shipped with the Halo 3 Beta."
Yeah, except D-9 will actually, you know, sell...
I want to pop Athena's head with that weird tazer-cord brain-exploding thing.
@Trevsweb- What the hell cinema did you go to? And don't worry- it's a showcase film for the RED camera, the first digital camera to shoot at the same resolution that 35mm film is processed at, or about 4 x 1080p, so yes, it will be just splendid on bluray.
I'm getting both the GoW Collection and District 9 regardless, so i guess i'll be playing the demo twice?
Anyway, you can never have too much 'splode ray. And D9 had plenty 'splode ray.
It's going to happen man, and when it does, you'll remember me....
Weird combo indeed.
District 9 is the movie Peter Jackson produced and Niel whatshisname directed...who went off to make this movie together after the two, in the same working positions, were set to make the Halo movie till Microsoft messed it up.
So is it mere coincidence that Sony's next biggest game just happens to demo with this exact movie?
Or maybe I just know way more about the industry than any sane person should and see everything related.
Just saying, "We have Blu-ray, ergo we are better" isn't good enough.
