So there will be a God of War III demo. Unfortunately, potential players of aforementioned demo will have to be either (a) adventurous consumers or (b) uber-fans of the God of War series. And why is that exactly? Because Sony Computer Entertainment is bundling the demo with God of War Collection.
In a recent posting on the official PlayStation blog, SCE Santa Monica director of product development John Hight revealed that the voucher for the downloadable demo (via PSN) would be included with every copy of the Collection -- it’s not a pre-order deal, in other words. Also in the post, it’s made clear that the demo will be the same one that appeared at E3 2009. No shortage of gore and action in that one. That's for sure.
God of War Collection is slated for release this holiday, while God of War III hits in March.

Isn't demos meant to convince unsure people into buying it? So what's with the recent trend to only give demos to people who are fans or people who have pre-ordered?
Kinda seems like missing the point. Although it is good with a taste.
"completely different games" is World of Warcraft vs. Left 4 Dead. That's "COMPLETELY" different games.
GoW 1, 2, and & 3 all have identical gameplay. That's not "completely" different games.
I meant just release it on the psn and not bother with the middle man.

Well, I don't own the previous 2 games, rented and beat GoW2, and I've only played the original GoW at a friend's house...maybe I'll buy the Collection anyway!

In my personal experience there are way more games that I'm convinced not to buy after playing a demo than games I have been convinced to buy. I'd argue that some games (particularly new IP that demos great like Borderlands) need to have a public demo of some sort, but for something like God of War that is going to sell huge numbers either way they'll probably make more money off people who have already played the first two games buying the 720p collection with the added incentive of the demo than they would people buying GOW3 who wouldn't have been interested without playing a demo.
I'll make an Internet guarantee (that's where you all forget I said it if I'm wrong, but give me full credit if I'm right) that this will be made available to everyone on PSN sometime within a couple weeks to either side of the GOW3 release. Otherwise they would have just pressed it on the disc.
