God of War dev ditches the PSP

God of War dev ditches the PSP photo

Despite the PSP's increased success in Japan, the format is still struggling to get some love outside of the homeland. The latest word is that God of War: Chains of Olympus developer Ready At Dawn is now "done" with the PSP and has sent back its devkits.

"With Chains of Olympus going gold in Japan, we're now officially done with PSP development," announced the studio, which also worked on the PSP spin-off Daxter. "So today we sent all our devkits back and seeing all these boxes ready to be picked up definitely marks the end of an era here at Ready at Dawn. Can't wait to show you guys what we have in store."

Well that's a shame, since God of War, despite being ridiculously short on the PSP, was a pretty good slice of portable violence. I really feel bad about the PSP's run of luck, since it's a fantastic handheld that just can't seem to catch a break over here. Still, with sales going strong in Japan, I doubt Sony is weeping too hard.

@Three posters above

Why yes. I believe it is. More on topic, I'm looking forward to an original IP from Ready at Dawn. Maybe the work on Okami was something of a springboard for a new Wii project?

They announced they were going to do this a while back. But it's too bad nonetheless. They were the best PSP devs imo. I loved Daxter.

I almost care..........almost.

The psp was meant to emulate, god told me in a dream I had. We then played a game of golf with flamingos and peaches, so many laughs we shared.

wow I just noticed the balloon on the left side of the side and totally got distracted by it...

though I have a PSP, I don't think I've ever used it for long gaming-bouts... an hour straight at the most... whereas my DS can grab my attention sooooooo much longer...

Maybe they just want to move on to bigger and better things. By ditching the portable and grabbing the Digital Downloads wave with their own original IP's.

It is really depressing. The PSP is a really good machine. There's a lot of potential, but sadly, piracy is very bad in that thing.

It's so easy to hack a PSP. I've done it to mine, but not to pirate games. I may download a game, demo it for a while, and if I dig it, I'll buy it. The modding is mostly used to make my PSP a handheld SNES and GBA all in one. There are some PSX titles that I'll shove in there at times.

The PSP may go down in history as the cheapest, easiest way to legally play Valkyrie Profile, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Disgaea on the way to school. also, pron.
