If you're anything like me, I'm sure you had quite a laugh when the mobile phone game, God of War: Betrayal, was announced by Sony Online Entertainment. The idea of trying to translate the visceral excitement of the series to the mobile platform is somewhat an absurdity as far as I'm concerned.
But I have to admit, this video has me calling my mobile carrier (Sprint) and asking "Hey, when the hell am I going to be able to rip a centaur's legs off with my Blades of Chaos ... and why do you keep screwing up my bill every month?"
Early hands-on with the game have been positive, and since I get off on tearing stuff apart with my bare hands, I'm definitely looking forward to tearing stuff apart in my bare hands. Something has to replace my mobile Tetris addiction, and it may as well be oodles of violence.
I don't know too much about the mobile platforms, so I can't answer any specific questions. But I do know that I own a Q Smartphone and SOE has said there's a "possibility" of the game being on the platform, although I highly doubt it.
I'm not buying it. I guess I'm in the minority when I say the game looks like crap, but seriously, phone limitations or not, the game looks and moves like it's at 10-FPS if you're lucky.
These types of games don't belong on cell phones. Because the controls will inevitably suck, the designers can't actually put any SKILL into the game. What fun is a game with no challenge whatsoever?
I'll stick to Tetris and Yahtzee and Bowling on my phone, thank you.
God of War: Betrayel is something of a ground-breker for the mobile platform. Most people don't even realize that cell-phones are even capable of playing games. Although I wonder why, as they play music and video.
Anyway, for those who put down the concept of cell-phone games, let me remind you that the state of the art on these is certainly back in the 16 bit era of console platforms. Does anyone remember the original Nintendo platform? One thing to be aware of. GoW:B looks best on a cell-phone that is capable of showing the true excellence (for the platform it runs on) of the graphics. Some are not. That said, I KNOW that GoW:B is being ported to about 1200 different phones.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Though this is pretty sw33t!
i guess they might not do a shittacular job after all. looks good :D
I'd rather they had gone this route for the PSP version, with CPS III quality graphics of course.

They don't need precise controls and have a lot of just up, down, left, right, menu selection.
