It's hardly a shock announcement, but it's an announcement nonetheless -- Sony has confirmed that God of War III is in the works and it will be coming out -- gasp -- on the PlayStation 3. Along with the announcement came the news that God of War director Cory Barlog is leaving Sony. Despite the loss of Barlog, Sony has assured fans that the series will still remain Godly. "We are confident in the God of War team, as they are an extremely talented group of people that are passionate about the franchise and dedicated to creating even more epic content with God of War: Chains of Olympus for the PSP and God of War III for PS3," declared a Sony spokesperson. So, a new God of War imbued with the Ray of Blu, minus the original director. Will God of War III give Sony the current-gen edge it needs, or will it fail to live up to expectations? Time will tell, but speculation will be more fun.

This is because I just beat God of War 2 on monday night.
Your welcome...internet.
Well, as long as it releases before Ninja Gaiden 2, they might be okay. Maybe. Blu-Ray (since it's doing so fabulous) + new director who is "passionate about the franchise" (read: wants MONEH) - threat of impending Ninja rape the world has only seen in Ninja Gaiden series = Profit^i. There, I did it in math.
and please sony make more badass sections like the jump from pillar to pillar in N°2,you know we like'em
@Butmac: I thought Barlog left because you beat GoWII. He was mumbling something about "apparently not hard enough"...
"Will God of War III give Sony the current-gen edge it needs, or will it fail to live up to expectations?"
Who knows...but Uncharted will. :)
@MaxVest
ROFLOL
TALLEDAGA NIGHTSsss power!
I clicked on this looking for a Hexfix post and I'm not seeing one.
Disappointed...
@ PwnDaddy
You are correct sir. God of War is a common buttonmasher compared to Ninja Gaiden.
Of course it'll fail to live up to expectations. It's the extremely rare sequel (or extremely crappy original) that even meets, much less surpasses what its fans want. Better that GoW3 surpass its contemporaries (i.e. innovations and improvements brought about by its dozens of imitators) than try to be like its precursors all over again.
Didn't David Jaffe direct the first one? If so, having a new director again wouldn't necessarily hurt the series.
What no hexfix post? NOOOOOOOO my comedy needs for the morning has not been reached yet!
Thanks ButMac....about damn time.
So is he gonna start going after norse mythology now? Gonna run out of greek gods to kill eventually...
CHAD WARDEN LOVES THAT PS TRIPLE NIGGAZ.
And what? They are going to make a game like Heavenly Sword? (that game was a such a direct God of War rip)
Do we need this? Another 6-8 hours of mindless carnage? Just grow up...
Chad Warden=Douchey fanboy..
i think its good that barlog has stepped away from sony, so another director can come in with fresh ideas. i think thats what made gowII so fresh and awesome, even though it was sequel.
i have high expectations, and i think they will nail it. chains of olympus demo was proof that there's still juice left in kratos. but yes, sirpalee, the argument "do we need this" is a valid one. time will tell...
release date, anyone? 08 or 09? wadya think?
If that Chains of Olympus demo is any indication on where the series is headed, then I don't think many people will be dissapointed. Although there are those fanboys who will of course call this a button masher with comparisons to ninja gaiden and what-not, but we all know what kind of cock they can all suck. If GoW was a simple button masher, I wouldn't like it.
Hopefully, this’ll be out in time for Holiday 2008. I’m excited to see what they’ll do, and I’m not really worried about Barlog leaving because the first two games have had different directors anyway.
I hope there is a God Of War 3. An I hope Jim Sterling has gotten his facts right about this more than he did with that Manhunt 2 showreel.
Time to get a BS3 now???
Great... I just _love_ trilogies that jump between platforms...
i think barlog left because everyone kept calling him "balrog" in the spirit of the game
unusual names can be so cruel
