Namco Bandai's awesomely-named Monster Hunter ripoff God Eater is looking to do quite well, if the demo numbers are anything to go by. Despite having gone live less than two months ago, the ten-mission PSP demo has already been downloaded (and presumably played) a million times. As for the reasons why, I've got a few guesses:
Coming out in February, it's timed well to catch PSP owners coming off of Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G (known as Freedom Unite here), who don't own a Wii.
The belts-and-zippers character design might appeal to folks less into Monster Hunter's goofy fantasy style.
The swords can change into guns, and then into god face-eating monsters.
It's named God Eater!!!
Plus, characters and gear from the demo can be exported into the main game, so it's a great incentive to hook otherwise ambivalent players.
I'm seriously stoked for seeing this thing make a debut on our side of the Pacific, so here's to seeing it do well in Glorious Nippon. Now check out a new trailer embedded below.
I was one of those million who downloaded the demo. It's really not offering anything Monster Hunter doesn't already offer, but that's not a bad thing at all given how good monster hunter is. I'm looking forward to the full release.
i played the demo for freedom unite and thought...
while the game seems really interesting (i really liked the whole chase one big monster around the level concept.), the controls were so fucking horrible i didn't even try the 2nd and 3rd missions.
I loved the demo - the AI really does well at their support role - they heal, they revive, they kick ass as much or more than the player. I found myself having to kill-steal after a while just to get that nice "You beat a monster!" icon next to my name. This beats out the (Akuma Hunters)Exorsister demo, btw ^__^
OMFG! surely will be one of the next games to pass to swell my collection along with MGS: Peace Walker and Silient Hill Sharttered Memories. The game looks amazing and those graphics with anime scenes make you want to have already

If it's not goofy, it's definitely not serious:

is this game the same way?
Point taken, maybe i took it the wrong way.. lol, sorry for the OVERREACTION DRAMA.
