Go, go, go: TF2 'Spy/Sniper' Update is available via Steam photo

OK, the wait is finally over. The Team Fortress 2Spy/Sniper Update” is available for download via Steam. According to Shacknews, this signals the true beginning of the extended weekend deal -- the one that allows everyone to join in on the Team Fortress 2 fun for free over the next few days.

In addition to whipping out a truly massive patch (the notes are available on the official Steam Web site), Valve also took the time to slash the Team Fortress 2 retail price (via Steam) by 50 percent.

Not bad at all, eh?

[Hey, sorry about the hiccup earlier. Did I do it right this time?]

tf2 is the one reason I miss my windows pc. but being a film major, mac is pretty essential to my work.

Well it was downloading slow, until I switched from that pos Dallas download server. Now everything is easy, breezy.

Releasing the sniper and spy updates together was a genius move on Valve's part.

Jesus, they buffed the Spy like crazy.

But will it change anything?

Not really.

10/10.

Im playing this game so much lately... its been over a year and I keep playing this game. I think that the OB deal was probably the best in all my gaming years.

Anyone know how the new item obtainment system works?

Great update though...finally the more downtrodden classes get some power.

Just the new item obtaining system is random. In fact ppl on the steam forums are claiming unlocks for weapons they already have and ppl who play multiple hrs get nothing but then a new person playing engy for a bit gets one of the new updates. I myself achievment farmed on my own server with another account. In that time got 12 achievements for both sniper and spy and got nothing. But also got my two achievements left for the kgb and got it immediately. So who knows word is valve is going to explain the system tomorrow, but all rumors.

So far, obtaining items is completely random.

Anyone can get an item at any time, and that includes spectators, even before a match begins. It doesn't matter if you're playing a different class, you can obtain any item for any class at any moment.

What blows is that, even if you want a specific item, achievements don't let you earn them through hardwork anymore. You can only get them randomly... which could theoretically never happen in your lifetime (complete conjecture)!!!

Time-release extra weapons. I like this change a lot, since it feels less like a prize that can be easily cheated and more like a reward for perseverance.

Less like a prize for fullfilling requirements, and instead random. Hmm, I dunno, if it is as random as it sounds, I don't think it is an improvement.

I will wait until my brother, an avowed TF2 addict, gives me the skinny tomorrow.

Damn you weekend in Amsterdam, getting in the way of TF2. j/k, i look forward to playing it when i get back... i doubt there will be a big problem with sniper/spy spamming this time. I mean the classes aren't that popular so i doubt people will care that much about the new stuff.

You do know that imovie (or whatever it's called) is available on windows? I'm not sure how much it costs, but do what I did and just torrent it, you aready have a copy you paid for, it seems. Seek it out. :)

Personally I use avid, easier to run on a windows PC and, IMHO, less of a fustrating professional editing software to learn. imovie just annoys me half the time.

Also, yes, as the fine people mentioned above me, it's pyro time!

The-Excel - It's not time release, it's completely random. I played for 4-5 hours last night after updating and got nothing.

I thought it sounded like you'd pick up whatever weapon on the ground. I have no Scout weapons, so if I killed someone using the Sandman and I pick it up, then I'd get it permanently.

That's the impression I get from the Update News, however. It may seem random because the gameplay is so fast we don't really pay attention to what weapons we're looting.

It doesn't feel like a prie at all. It feels like a die roll. A horribly rare, once in a blue moon die roll.

Don't exactly like the new weapon unlock system - spent ages trying to half-heartedly get the ubersaw, and then it suddenly just drops into my lap while playing.

What's the point of the achievements if they aren't tied to anything? Now I have no incentive to try to get any of them.

TF2 is still a great game - I do enjoy the new Sniper weapons and most of the new Spy items (except that the dead ringer isn't very useful to me). But why ON EARTH would valve allow you to unlock weapons that...... you've already unlocked? Why do I need THREE flare guns? I don't need three flare guns, and now I have to go delete them whenever these duplicate weapons pop up. Could it have been that hard to program it so that it only allowed weapons you DON'T have pop up or be found?

Hopefully Valve will fix this. And perhaps, hopefull they will also fix the ability for the Spy's ambassador to SHOOT THROUGH THE GRATING BEFORE THE START OF THE ROUND!

At this point - the only issue I really have is the new way to unlock weapons. Provided that valve go back to the old way, everything's fine.

I was only getting 7 Kb/s when I started some many people where getting it, but it may have been my fault. Anyways, the update is good, it also added in helmets. But the new way of unlocking things is absolute bullshit.
