Go back in time in EA's NBA Live 09 with NBA Live Rewind

Being able to change sports history in a videogame isn’t exactly a novel idea; features like Madden Moments have been around for a while now. But in NBA Live 09, EA Sports is taking that feature a step further, and that step -- when combined with the game’s Dynamic DNA -- could turn out to be one giant leap for sports gamerkind. Check out the trailer above, in which Assistant Producer Gareth Reeder -- who has an unmistakably Canadian accent -- explains NBA Live Rewind and how Dynamic DNA ties in with it.

As Reeder tells it, NBA Live Rewind “lets you play a single game that happened in the past.” Sounds rather pedestrian, doesn’t it? But the integration of Dynamic DNA is what really makes Rewind so promising and so brilliant. When you use Rewind to replay a particular game from last season, NBA Live 09 will incorporate the DNA from that game -- hot streaks, active rosters, and all kinds of other statistical data -- so while you’ll be starting with a clean slate, it’ll be just like you actually went back to that date and rewound time to tip-off.

To begin, you pick two teams, and the game will start downloading the DNA data for all the games they played against each other. Then, you can check out box scores for those individual games, as well as all kinds of other DNA info, and it’s up to you to pick which game you want to replay. To top it all off, once the new NBA season begins on October 5th, NBA Live 09 will be updated with DNA and Rewind data from the 2008-09 season! And I love the cheesy ending where Reeder himself rewrites history, don’t you?

If this doesn’t sound the least bit intriguing to you, check your wrist for a pulse. NBA Live 09 will be out on October 7th for PS3, 360, Wii, PS2, and PSP (presumably, NBA Live Rewind and Dynamic DNA will only be available on the PS3 and 360). Hit up the game’s official Web site for more details.

We had entirely too much fun with the Madden GIFerator

EA Sports had this crazy idea that sounded as though, in a perfect world, it just might work. They empowered football fans to create their own GIFs complete with player animations, backgrounds, and smack talk with an impossib...more

Ah, so that's where those silly Madden GIFs are coming from

I don't care at all about Madden, but GIFs? Damn you, Electronic Arts. You've won. The company has created a GIF maker for Madden NFL 15, "designed to help fans celebrate their favorite team's biggest plays and challenge thei...more
