Glutton for punishment: Prinny 2 announced photo

Nippon Ichi isn't done punishing you. Prinny: Can I Really Be The Hero? was a ball buster, and now a sequel is coming.

As far as details go, there isn't much. An article on Dengeki about the Japanese re-release of the original title at a new price (2,079 yen, or about $22) as a The Best Price title, and as a PlayStation Network download (1,500 yen, November 26th) dropped the news.

Really, all we have is a logo for the sequel, seen above. No release date or details or anything like that. Prinny looks to be flying forward, as if something blew up behind him. What's new, right? I wonder if this is going to be even harder than the original.

I kind of hated the first game (yes, I beat it). The weird thing is, they could change a few key mechanics and I'd probably love the sequel.

I still contend that review wasn't in-depth enough: I always wanted a second opinion from you, Dale!

I can't wait for the sequel.

I agree, that review was horrid. It only focused on the negatives. Apparently hard games are bad? So Demon's souls sucks? I hope someone else reviews the sequel.

The first game was a bit frustrating, so I never completed it. I'd like to see multiple difficulty levels. You still would be able to cater to masochists while letting gamers who've lost their touch like myself enjoy it more.

I really like the first game, although i havent beaten it yet. that final level is just absolutely ridiculous.

as much as i loved its charm and difficulty it was incredibly frustrating at times. some more difficulty levels and maybe some more moves and i would be set to buy the sequel tho.

Yes! I loved the original Prinny game. It's honestly one of my favorite platformers ever. Normally I'm turned away by games that just want to kick your ass but I just couldn't stop playing that game, even when I died like 20 times on one part of a stage.

Which reminds me, I really need to get around to trying the DLC for that game.

I never played the first Prinny, but I wanted to. Was it Contra hard, or Superman 64 hard?

I assume you're asking whether it's legitimately hard, or just hard from bad controls? It's definitely closer to the former, though in all honesty I didn't think the game was THAT hard once you got accustomed to it. The biggest complaint I've seen about it is that you can't position your landing midjump (a la Ghouls and Ghosts), but all that really means is that every platform is perfectly positioned for your jumps, so the biggest hurdle for me was to get used to not double jumping when you don't need to.

Well, considering the abysmally low score Destructoid gave the original (and my own miserable experience with it), I'll definitely steer clear of this. That game was an affront to my sensibilities.

Luckilly the first one was short, even though it was a ball buster. I don't know if it's because I like punishment or what, but I'll probably pick this one up too. I hated the jumping, but otherwise it wasn't THAT bad.

Isn't the new game something like, "May I Please Be the Protagonist?" I think I saw that on Kotaku. I loved the main Prinny, and how he showed up in Disgaea 3 as a downloadable.

When is D3 coming to PSP? Not like it can't handle it.

Uh, the PSP can't handle D3. It was on the PS3 because the PS2 couldn't handle it. Just because it has low quality graphics doesn't mean it requires minimal hardware to run, the game has some massive stages with tons of stuff going on all at once. It may not come close to pushing the PS3, but it's more than the PSP could handle.

I am so excited about this game. It is not funny.

Also the PSP could easily handle D3 with a bit of graphics tuning.

Holy crap why did I only just see it? I can't wait for this. I always love me some Prinny.

Obviously...

I didn't finish it because, sadly, I don't own a PSP right now. I only played it on a friend's PSP for a about half of the game. It was awesome. Hard as hell, but so satisfying.

Whoo.
