Glorkbot creator talks Vic 20, SuperF*ckers, and more
Last week's Sup, Holmes? (available now on iTunes) was a true wild card episode. Our guest, James Kochalka, is like no other guest we've had before -- and unless Pendelton Ward finally decides to return my e-mails, I doubt we'll every see his like again. James is a true multimedia giant. He's been creating music, comics, animation, and videogames since he was in the single digits, and at 45, he's never been more prolific or successful. James told us all about his earliest experiences programming on the Commadore Vic 20. One of his first games was called Smedley, and it sounds like the best Q-Bert game you've never played. I want it. Badly. Will someone listen to James's plan and make us a Smedley? Like, right now? We deserve it! We also spoke about what it's like to hire Maria Bamford and Veronica Belmont to work on a cartoon series, what kids under ten think of "retro" graphics (hint, they don't think of them as "retro"), how Elvis was the first hipster, and a whole lot more. It was one of the most interesting conversations I've ever had. Thanks again to James for appearing on the show, and please tune in this Sunday when we welcome Mariel Cartwright (link NSFW), lead artist on Skullgirls, Lesbian Spider Queens From Mars, and contributing artist on Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World: The Game, the Silent Hill series, and many more. We're going live at 1pm PST/4pm EST, so don't be late! Did you know? You can now get daily or weekly email notifications when humans reply to your comments.
