Remember the Gizmondo? Probably not. The only thing I can ever remember about this ill-fated handheld is an incident involving an executive of the company which produced it crashing an incredibly expensive Ferrari and then going to prison.

Regardless of its utter failure to create any sort of foothold in the market, plans were laid for a new Gizmondo handheld to be released this month. Due to difficulty in securing funds in the current economic situation, however, those plans have been shelved until 2009.

Since there's no rush to get the device to market, Media Power is making some design changes with their newfound time. It will still be running your choice of Google Android or Windows CE, but the handheld will now be a combination gaming device and smartphone.

If the new Gizmondo ever sees the light of day and you happen to be one of the five people on Earth who actually has one, there's more good news for you. Media Power will be offering owners of the first handheld a free upgrade to the Gizmondo 2.

What do you mean? This thing looks like it makes perfect sense! I can see it now: "Push the Three Lines Button to jump. You can run if you hold down the Bacon Button."

Let's see, would the Spin Jump be the Oh! Button, or the Zillion Dots Button? It's been a while since I played.

gizmondo 2 sales breakdown:

five 13-year-olds will have their moms get it for them for christmas because they think it will "kick ass".
two geeks will buy one to hack it and install linux.
one poor sap will buy a PSP on ebay, but it will actually be a gizmondo 2 in a PSP box.

good luck, suckas.

This looks like a big chunk of melted plastic with the Fifth Element symbols for buttons

I remember Gizmondo games being sold in HMV (that's the only place I saw them) for one month, and one month only. How do they even market this thing? When I just saw the header picture, I thought that the symbols for the buttons were pasted on using MS Paint!

Now, I haven't done my research here exactly, but I'm going to assume that the Gizmondo 2 offers more (or different) multimedia experiences than a DS or a PSP - given that its the only way this thing could actually stand a chance. If that's the case though, i'm thinking can't something well established like an iPhone or iPod Touch already do whatever it is a Gizmondo would ever want to...?

Also the iPhone isn't an ugly monster of a machine...

This is the whole reason why it won't fail , it's more alive now then when it was alive , you know what I mean , it's like there are more website's, blogs talking about this then ever before , amazing how hot this is , I can tell that almost every single Gizmondo thats put on Ebay sell's and the big reason they do sell is that it can do so much and it's been unlocked to play all the emulators and all the games for it can download as well , plus it's a nice little GPS unit , so for like $60.00 to $140.00 (depends on what all comes with it)it's well worth it . so if the new system can be sold for like $129.00 and do more then the current Gizmondo , well hey I would buy one or more .oh you can also get more free stuff here as well for it if you already have giz , www,gizmondohomeworld.com
