Even though I was done with Lara Croft’s adventures after Tomb Raider III for the original PlayStation I still had high hopes for the character. I even saw both (yes, both!) Angelina Jolie films in the theater in an attempt to rekindle my love for the original queen of cosplay. (Unsurprisingly, that didn’t work.)

It wasn’t until 2006’s exceptional Tomb Raider: Legend when my love for all things Lara Croft returned. Combining classic exploring with some satisfying Prince of Persia acrobatics, Legend was a stellar entry in the Tomb Raider series -- bringing the game back to its classic, adventuring roots.

If the above gameplay trailer for the upcoming Tomb Raider: Underworld is any indication, it looks like the Lara Croft hot streak is set to continue. While I wanted to see more of the highly buzzed about underwater levels, the footage shown looks extremely polished. From the gorgeous and well-designed environments to the foreboding voice acting, Underworld looks to be another impressive entry in the Tomb Raider series.

Check out the trailer and let us know what you think. Is Tomb Raider quietly returning to its revered days of yore? How excited are you about battling that giant squid?

TR:Legend was legendary and Anniversary was even better. I have hight hopes for this, hopefully I won't be disappointed.

I bailed out on the Tomb Raider franchise after TRII, but Legend got me back into the series in a big way. Anniversary, while still a fun game, didn't quite live up to the stellar Legend. Which, in my opinion, is due to the intrinsic limitations of creating a re-make. Underworld comes amidst high hopes and expectations.

I wouldn't say legend was stellar. Good, yes. Ditto on Anniversary. This one could be the stellar. And, Lara is definitely on a roll.

Kinda look like a mix between Devil may cry, Prince of Persia, and Uncharted.

Pause it at 1:28 and you can see that the skin just below Lara's eagles peak is a different colour to the skin on her face.

Looks good. Also, looks like they kept the same voice actors and are contunuing the story where it left off in Legend. Consistency ftw.

I'm still really unenthused by Lara Croft. I'm not even sure why she's so popular, aside from the mammaries. The trailer did look kind of okay, though. And I liked the Angelina Jolie movies, thank you very much. :)

It actually looks good. Cant believe I'm saying that about a TR game again.

I also stopped playing the TR after 2.
I forgot about TR Legend. Didn't know it was considered good, I'll probably give it a go before this comes out.

It all looked gorgeous except for that one close up of Lara's face (@1.25), where she looks very shiny and plastic.

I was done with her after tomb raider 1 and all that 3d junk got boring.

Then final fantsy 7 came and had even more bad 3d and even worse FMV and runined that too even faster than the SEGA CD and turbo duo did.

nice job ps1 and n64 for making stuff suck with your little hardware novelties and no substance.

I loved Legend, but never bothered to play Anniversity (wasn't much caring for remakes at the moment). I am wondering of the voice at the end, for the end took my desire from "meh" to "oooh, pretty". As for the movies, they were garbage. Though Angelina was hot then... it all went down hill after that. But that should be saved for a different post.

Ugh, underwater. TRII caused me to hate underwater levels in any game I have played since then so I hope they give them a serious retooling. It looks a lot like Legend, for sure, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
