Ghostbusters sells tons of units in first month photo

Ghostbusters: The Video Game sold well. June NPD numbers indicate that consumers gobbled up 440,000 units of the game written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis in less than three weeks on the market. According to the LA Times blog, Ghostbusters sold more in its first month of release than many other recent film-based properties, including Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and even the vaunted X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

We’re sure Atari and Terminal Reality are pleased.

Unless a kid pops his hamster with a homemade Proton Pack or Atari announces a sequel, we’re pretty sure this is the last time we’ll mention Ghostbusters: The Video Game in a news article. So, we might as well get this out of the way:

Bustin’ makes me feel good. Also, don’t cross the streams.

We’re tickled that the game sold so well and hope that sales will force another game (of equal and hopefully better quality) to go into production. Or, hey, how about that fabled Ghostbusters 3 script? That thing needs to happen.

Glad to see that this sold well, it shows that putting movie quality writing into games will sell copies. Well, that and a huge franchise attached to it :)

I'm glad to see that this game did well. I thought the writing was good and that the gameplay was relatively smooth and functional. You honestly can't help but smile the first time that theme song kicks in.

I bet Activision is trying to find a way to sue them right now.

All fine and great, but you should all go to the Atari forums. Nothing but complaints about how buggy it is and pc users pissy that they took out multiplayer at the last minute. There are also tons of installation issues, game saves becoming deleted on consoles, etc etc.

Best part, Atari has YET to even post on the forums about any of it. Lots of angry players about this game.

With all of Atari's financial issues as of late, I doubt they will release any updates or patches for the game, so good luck.

Also talks of a class action suit for the bait and switch for the PC multiplayer....because we all know how well class action suits work against game companies.

I thought Aykroyd and Ramis where more of Consultants on the project? Who actually wrote the story?

This is good news for Atari -- it's probably too late to pull them out of their decade-long nosedive, but good news nonetheless.

@Kyosji, yes pc port was crap but most people would have gotten the much better console version.

the lack of multiplayer in the PC version was annoying, but other than that i had NO issues with it.

9/10 times i think companies don't respond to issues in their forums is because they know the problem is the users fault and not theirs.

Nice! They did a good job with the game and could definitely make a respectable series out of this. I agree Brad, bring on GB3!

I love this game - I really hope they patch it soon. There's a couple of issues that need tidying up.

Are they talking about the PC, Wii, PS3, 360, and DS combined?
