Ghost Recon predicts conflict, Russians start firing at bushes indiscreetly photo

Today, an article on GamePolitics points out that the story of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon predicted the events of the new conflict between Georgia and Russia. Any avid reader of Tom Clancy realizes that the things he writes are all plausible scenarios, but even this seems a bit more nail on the head than usual. The people over at The Bulletin recently put up a beefy article detailing the coincidence.

The game's opening sequence features a Russian leadership intent on bringing the former Soviet republics back under its control. The narrator describes a Russian leader eerily similar to Vladimir Putin... As the game's intro opens, a lone 2008 flashes on the screen before the narrator reads the following words: "The year is 2008, and the world teeters on the brink of war. Radical ultranationalists have seized power in Moscow - their goal, the reestablishment of the old Soviet empire... The world holds its breath, and waits.
All the Russians need to know is that if they see an ultra-secret, super maneuverable group of Americans with guile suits they probably have only a matter of seconds to live. They also need to watch out for the ramp and corner “glitching” that Ghosts tend to do when under extreme duress. Since Tom Clancy appears to be on the ball, do you guys know of any other games that have predicted the future?

Eerie. Also, to answer your question, no. The closest thing I can think of was the prophet Jim Carrey talking about the rise of online gaming in 1996.

The two groups who expected us to start a war with Russia over this:
1) Tom Clancy

Dude brad, I have been playing ghost recon for years, and recently started playing it again since Russia invaded Georgia, and the crazy thing is.. the VERY FIRST MISSION.. is about a situation that Georgia thinks is sparked by Russian influence to give Russians an excuse to annex the country. Wanna hear something crazy to add to this? Russia invaded Georgia for reasons dealing with rebel activity (just like the game) They claim that their soldiers were killed / injured and it will not go unpunished. SHAZAM just like the game THE PROPHECY IS REAL!

This is complete bullshit. Georgia attacked South Osetia and killed more than 2000 people including 18 Russian peace keepers. Russia didn't invade Georgia in any way. Check more sources, you can't trust CNN or BBC if it has to do with a small democratic country.

I understand the next game to predict the future is Revolution X.

Just remember the one thing you need to know to survive the eventual Aerocaust: Music is the Weapon.

An interesting post indeed. Maybe the russians are fans of the GR games.

ZagZag, who started what is kind of irrelevant. The fact is the russian government feel funny about regions deciding their fate. I find this strange, since surely if Russia were to offload a few of such regions, it would be less of a burden on them and their system. Add the equation of russian oil and gas into that and the wealth they are getting will be shared among themselves.

Besides, Russia have been killing Chechyn's like there's no tomorrow, while other regions look on. What's their excuse.

Anyway, Go Tom Clancy.

As MaximusPaynicus said, in Cable Guy:

Chip Douglas: The future is now! Soon every American home will integrate their television, phone and computer. You'll be able to visit the Louvre on one channel, or watch female wrestling on another. You can do your shopping at home, or play Mortal Kombat with a friend from Vietnam. There's no end to the possibilities!

The U.S. & NATO court Georgia into becoming a member. The U.S. and Israel send weapons, monetary aid, and trainers (along with spec ops) into Georgia. Through foreign support, Georgia's military budget is the largest percentage growth in the world for last year (40% increase). What does Cheney and all the rest of the neo-con's (along with Israel) have a hard on for? Invading Iran. What's stopping them? Russia and China's alliances with Iran. What's the major land mass separating Russia and Iran? Georgia. Major news outlets are parroting the administrations cries of foul against Russia. Put it together people. The information is out there to find. You would do well to listen to ZagZagovich, he knows of what he speaks.

Hey there, Rich. South Ossetia is a semi-autonomous region of Georgia. So while you may not agree with the tactics of Georgia's government, the fact remains that Russia has violated the borders of Georgia. The only reason for this is to absorb some of its former territory back into the motherland. Russia's recent history shows that a large percentage of its population and governemnt officals would like to reassemble the old Soviet Union if possible. Trusting Russia is foolish, as it has been for quite a while.

Not to ruin the prophecy, but it probably wasn't hard to predict since they've said that of every country they invaded.

Rugbydan,

I have not stated that Russia's hands are clean. What we must realize is that Ossetia is a ninety percent Russian area. Georgia has made repeated efforts to ethnically cleanse the region. Russian peacekeeping troops have been in Ossetia for years and were approved in international agreements so as to protect the citizens of the region from attacks by the Georgian military.

Since Ossetia is "semi-autonomous", Georgia, not Russia, started this war. Georgia invaded Ossetia trying to take control of the region and ethnically cleanse the Russian population. Thousands of people died in this Georgian strike against Ossetia.

This is not what I want to argue about. I want to make the point clear that there is a bigger plan going on here. Wars don't just happen. They have been planned for a year before the public is informed about the conflict. I may be wrong, but I think a strike against Iran is eminent.
