Ghost Recon meets Civil War, probably terrible photo

A few days ago, Activision announced their newest and most exciting title yet, Civil War: Secret Missions. The game is all about the guerrilla tactics used by the Union and Confederate armies to disrupt supply lines. Players will be able to conduct train raids, steal ships, and possibly even shoot other people. The game also plays on the duality of the war, allowing players to be a part of either side of the conflict. Luckily, no mention of how many times players will have to stare at the whites of their opponents eyes while frantically trying to reload their musket manufactured by children in loathsome factories.

I always had high hopes for Civil War games. Really what I want is a Civil War surgeon title. I want to be deep in the allied camp, searching for my hacksaw and asking wounded soldiers to bite down on their tack as I cut their leg off. Sadly, I don’t think developers are thinking along the same lines as me. History Channel’s Civil War: Secret Missions will be released “later this year” for the Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, and PC.

This can only be... um horrible.

Also, I'd prefer Revolutionary War Surgeon.

the American Civil War did have some incredible guerilla and behind enemy line attacks/missions. Mosby's story is almost too far fetched to be believable. However, I fear that Nathan Bedford Forrest might be one of the playable characters, you know, the Battle of Fort Pillow murderer of captured unarmed Union soldiers and future founder of the KKK. As a history teacher and gamer I am always disappointed when craptacular titles come out in the guise of education. Come on developers make it a decent game!

At least it should be better than that EA Celebrity crap coming out.

Maybe they're saving that for a minigame in the Wii version?

"the whites of their eyes"? Isn't that a Revolutionary War reference?

You know what really worries me about this? Who wants to replay a war, where you kill your own ancestors?

Back in the day I played a Half-Life mod called The Battleground that was based off the Revolutionary War. Even though you might think it'd be dumb having to reload after one shot and the reload taking about 10 seconds, it actually made it pretty fun and frantic. You had to decide quickly whether to charge the guy if your shot missed/didn't kill him or reload. Civil War game would be essentially the same.

How about civil war robot action? That takes care of the whole reloading thing. It's not as cool as zombies, but beggars can't be choosers. General Lee in a 20ft mech would sell...

So if I'm the south and I win, does this mean my property can get back to work and quit sitting on a few year break?
