After months of uncertainty, poorly timed beta invites, and well done cinematic trailers, a release date has finally been confirmed for the next entry in the Tom Clancy series. Ghost Recon: Future Soldier will be hitting stores for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on March 6, 2012.
Not much else is known about this new installment other then what has been extrapolated from the trailer. Players will have a new, dare I say more "futuristic" set of gadgets at their disposal. The Xbox 360 version is also boasting Kinect support, which is a first for series, as well as for realistic first-person shooters.
Will this new game help to grow the fan base or will it ultimately be better off listed as M.I.A.? We'll have to see in March.
Ghost Recon: Future Soldier marches to retail on March 6, 2012 [Joystiq -- Thanks, degravity]

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
As a former Soldier with two combat tours under my belt and an owner of a dozen firearms, I can assure you there is absolutely nothing realistic about any of them. Of course that includes any TPS.
People in the media refer to BF3 as realistic and now EA is using it as a bullet point. Really? The ignorant media gets to play with virtual guns and fantasizes about being a Soldier, then claim the game is realistic. What qualifies them to make such ridiculous claims. It's beyond obnoxious, and offensive to those who actually been in combat. So please stop.
And please start referring to "clips" as "magazines". Unless you are firing an M1 Garand with a stripper clip, your ammo is being cycled off a magazine, drum, box, or belt. If you want to start throwing the word "realistic" around at least learn the proper terminology. Copy that?
Why? BF3 is realistic, as in the graphics are so good, they look realistic. If games became too realistic, then it wouldn't even be a videogame anymore. And who cares if the media calls the game realistic even though they haven't been to war? Some people don't join the military, so this is the closest way they can feel wars. No game is EVER going to be feel realistic, but someday, the graphics WILL look like real life, no jaggy edges and all that.
Games and media alike should start using the word "Authentic" over the word "Realistic". It's possible to have a more authentic experience. A realistic experience? Hardly. I have had access to the most advanced combat simulators in the world and even referring to them a realistic is a stretch of the imagination.
Do gamers really need to believe they are engaged in a realistic experience? Is it a way for them to think they are getting a similar experience to the real thing? They want to know if they could do it? They think because they are successful in a video game they would, in turn,be a good soldier? I sure hope not. Not only is that disturbing, but laughable. And not in a funny way.
I have no idea what you think the word "realistic" means, but BF3 is definitely realistic - according to the word's current, obvious definition. It isn't real warfare and I don't seem to recall EA claiming it to be 100% like real warfare.
Also, umadbro?

BTW, my dad (who just returned from Iraq) saw your comment and he's postin it on his twitter. I personally agree and disagree with your statement. I agree because people get the word authentic and realistic mixed up, yet disagree on your other statements. It is possible to have a videogame closter to a military grade combat simulator (ArmA is the closet).
Still, I'm my opinion: fuck realism, I want to play videogames.
No one is trying to offend anyone, dude, so you have no reason to go angry feminist on our asses. These are some fine muscles you got, bet you're proud of 'em, so stop acting like a pussy.
No one believes they engage in realistic experience, unless they're idiots. When people say 'realistic' about military FPS games, you should see it like a poor choice of words, because they mostly refer to graphics, guns models and sounds, nothing more. No one says that dudebro gun blazing balls to the wall action is realistic.

Just quoting for the truth, also get over yourself, here in the internet (or in my case, real life) nobody gives a two shits about what you got under your belt.

That was an offshoot of this that was horrible. It came out for the Wii and the PSP already.
