Ghetto Golf mixes guns, golf, and... Tony! Toni! Tone!? photo

OK, so here's the deal: Raphael Saadiq, former member of the R&B group Toni! Toni! Tone! has his own videogame company, the Denver-based studio Illfonic. Their first project is Ghetto Golf, a downloadable titles that mixes together four Gs: games, gangsters, guns, and golf.

Right.

MTV Multiplayer's Stephen Totilo recently got a sneak peek of an early version of the game, which he describes as "Grand Theft Auto meets Tiger Woods PGA." The developers describe Ghetto Golf as "Friday meets Happy Gilmore." We're not sure which description is more bizarre, but we're intrigued. Check out more details at MTV Multiplayer.

That ATHF game was golf + other crap, and that didn't work well at all. From the screenshot, it looks like at the very least you have to walk to the ball between strokes, and at the very worst you have to defend yourself on the way and clear the area for you to be able to take your next shot. I am all in favor of golf taking place outside of a golf course, though.

Golf games: I hit the ball, I teleport to where it lands, I hit the ball again. That should be it.

by the way, shouldn't the developers have described the game as "Friday meets HAPPY GILMORE"?? Would have made more sense. Silly devs.

I liked it better when it was called Outlaw Golf. Except, you know, without all the black people.

I was going to say the same thing as foolishwolf.

I wish I were in a '90s R&B band so I could run a development studio now.

Hmmm, I remain skeptical. I think they're going for the Nobi Nobi Boy approach: pique our curiosity enough, and we'll pay to play your game.

In terms of golf related games, I don't believe anything will top the excitement and anticipation of seeing a screenshot for "Ninja Golf" for the Atari 7800 back in the day.

Ghetto Golf reminds me of looking of a huge shit i just took in a Price Chopper bathroom

If the collector's edition comes with a can of Purple Drank and a coupon for Popeye's Chicken, I will buy it. I will buy ten.

Instead of getting into senseless banter by using, somewhat ridiculous and mildly offensing use of language. I declare, that I'm a tad interested, mainly
because Saadiq is awesome. I mean, did you ever hear a Tony Toni Tone record?
And, by the way, I always envisioned to shot somebody on a golf course like Sayid

We play real ghetto golf. Me and my buddies are fairly average golfers, handicap's around 10 / 15 ish. But we don't buy into the whole "golf outfit" thing.

We rock up in baggy jeans and hoodies, crack out the joints when we get away from the clubhouse, in the summer we take some ciders with us. Now that is ghetto golf, ripping my Taylormade driver about 260 yards, mostly straight then smoking up some herb on the way to your ball.

Ghetto golf is jeans, hoodies, driving glove, ping cap, nice clubs and proper studded shoes and a fattie holder on your golf bag!

This game sounds like it's made specially for me! Can't wait.

-nb, there's also a magazine here in the UK aimed at golfers like me, Golfpunk. This whole "ghetto golf" thing is bigger than you'd think.
