In last week’s story announcing that Coldplay is coming to Guitar Hero, I said that I had yet to buy a single piece of Activision’s downloadable content offerings for Guitar Hero III. Well, it looks like they’ve finally put together a group of songs that I simply can’t resist purchasing, even though I’ll only be playing the guitar/bass parts as opposed to getting the full band experience.
Activision sent out a press release (see for yourself after the jump) today letting us know that “the reflective and emotional chords of multi-award winning band Coldplay” will be making their Guitar Hero series debut in the form of a three-song pack. As Entertainment Weekly told us last week, the first song is “Violet Hill,” the hit single from their new album, Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends (it came out in limited release this week -- as of today, it’s out in Japan, the UK, and Europe -- but it won’t be out in Canada and the US until next Tuesday, June 17th).
The second and third songs are two of my all-time favorite Coldplay tunes. There’s the band’s first big hit, “Yellow,” from 2000’s Parachutes; it’s a beautifully written love song. The last song is “God Put A Smile Upon Your Face,” off of 2002’s A Rush of Blood to the Head; it’s...also a beautifully written love song. Coldplay has got the “beautifully written love song” thing down pretty well.
In my opinion, since they’re going for guitar-heavy songs, they should’ve picked “Shiver,” which is a fantastic song and features a killer lead riff. But hey, they’ve done their job; I’m already willing to fork over my -- wait a minute, there’s no mention of a price in the press release! I’m going to go out on a limb and assume that the pack will cost the usual $6.25 (500 MS Points). Then again, the surprise Motörhead three-pack was only $5.99. Either way, how many of you will be picking up this pack when it hits the PlayStation Store and Xbox Live Marketplace next Thursday, June 19th?

Oh yeah, when I want to totally satisfy my inner rock star with Guitar Hero the first song I want to play is Yellow.
But to be fair I'm having trouble seeing how well these tracks will translate to guitar hero.
and I'm with you Samit, where the hell is Shiver?!
Coldplay sucks.
man Samit, you're just askin' to be picked on.
Know how I know you’re gay?
Telling your parents you're gay!
I know I told this one last time, but it still stands.
Damn you for beating me to it.
I don't often really LOL, but I reeeeally did there.
I like how Samit doesn't give a shit what people think of his music taste though and just spells out how much he loves them for the second article about it. Fair play man, gotta give that to you. I got a certain soft spot for them somewhere in my belly too.
Plus, the man is having his way with Gwyneth Paltrow every night.... He's done something right.
ahhh, first thing i thought, did ctrl+f "gay" and saw you beat me to it... good job tho!
It's cool man, don't forget this is a gaming blog before it's a music blog. You can be a fan of Ace of Base and that's great, but use it as in-game music for God of War II and you're gonna see people slamming the band and callin' em gay.
/goes to play God of War II to Ace of Base
you listen to coldplay :p
"yellow", though....bleh. you're on your own there.
don't be surprised at this turn of events, people. music games are the new TRL, iTunes, and radio all rolled into one multi-colored buttoned package.
First fallout boy, now this, I really don't feel you could have more a different idea regarding music than me. I hope to never accidentally swap ipods with you. But then again, I suppose with Coldplays ridiculous sales, I'm in the minority.
What, did you read the article or not?
