ZOMG a vidblog by Aktrez! The outspoken GGL gamer just sent us a thought provoking viewpoint through our MySpace on the topics of pwning, womenly kinship, Diablo II, hardcore boyfriends, not knitting, and what it's like to maneuver through the testosterone fortress that is the gaming community. (Well, except for Destructoid. Our resident writers Faith and Nagiko have bigger nads than most guys.) Check out the vid and discuss in the comments below. So what do you think? Does she have a point or do you disagree?

Niero, you can't say Destructoid isn't leaning towards their male audience. I mean c'mon, one of the categories for the Destructoid Editor's Choice Winners of 2006 was Best game that your girlfriend will love (but you'll be ridiculed for). Niero, you hypocrite. >_<

Shirt says: I would just like to let everyone know that I'm a girl, and I like ribbons in my hair, and I want to kiss all the boys. It's from Red Vs Blue and I felt it was HIGHLY appropriate. :p

I would also like to note that the reason I did this vblog was actually an answer to this link http://www.digg.com/gaming_news/Top_Ten_Hottest_Girl_Gamers_who_are_actually_gamers.

Just so you don't think it came out of no where.

I wish more girls played games, I wonder if most girls get started like she did, being introduced by a boyfriend to games.

Actually, caffeine, I wasn't INTRODUCED to gaming by my ex. I started gaming when I was 4 years old. I just never saw it as anything more than a hobby until then. It wasn't until 2000 when it became my life.

Here's the thing about "girl gamers."

They're gamers.

Who are girls.

And that's about all we need to know.

I got LITERALLY 13 seconds into that video and then she said she needed to "go on record" about "girl gamers."

That was it.

Over.

True, I guess I should have phrased it as a 'hobby', lifestyle is stretching it a bit, even for the most "hardcore" :)

I think plenty of girls have had some exposure to gaming, just very few tend to enjoy the same sorts of games guys do. My sister owns a cube, has my PS2 hostage for the duration of my college winter break with Guitar Hero, and after a few sessions of Wii sports is starting to bug my mom to start hunting for a unit for her.

She doesn't play any sort of online multiplayer games at all, I could see her playing a MMORPG in the future, but I doubt she'd ever pick up an FPS or an RTS.

Actually there a lot of girls that game. When I started playing BO3 online I was quit surprised how many females where online and how serious they took it. And it isn't that they stopped gaming after BO3, they all moved on to other games.

Yes lezbro that is a great way to look at it. If every guy who played had the same opinion then she wouldn't have made a video like this. Her point is that after most guys find out that you are female you are bombarded with questions like you are from another planet or something, or when they kill you they exclaim "oh my god I killed her!!". The day that guys start acting like playing with females is no big deal then maybe we will stop arguing our god given right to game!!

See.

Here's the thing.

I already act "like playing with females is no big deal."

Seriously. That was my point.

Let's be honest, a LOT of women (and girls) are taking a ride on this whole girl gamers meme. I think it's a complete and utter non-issue. I don't consider it any more valid than Black Gamers, Gay Gamers, or Native-American Gamers. Gamers are gamers. Period.

I don't think anyone needs to "go on record" (whatever that means) and I don't really care about the "issues" surrounding gender in gaming.

I'm pretty sure I acknowledged that I got "your point" when I said that if more people were like you then these things wouldn't be issues. and how can you say that we taking a ride on anything with the ignorant and foul things that we have to hear, it would probably be easier for some girls just to say screw it this is fun but not fun enough to expose myself to all these other ignorant people. I think what she is trying to do is to make the fact that the girls and women that you are talking to are real people trying to have fun just like you, and while you might not have an issue with girls gaming there are MANY people that do.

ZOMG DEAD SADDAM HAS NICE BOOBIES!

I don't understand why people are still shocked there are actually girl gamers out there. I mean, it's like being surprised women enjoy watching movies or something. I knew girls who could kick my ass in Goldeneye back in high school. These people should try meeting more women, they might be surprised to find out they don't spend all their time braiding hair and fantasizing about boy bands.

Y'know, I really wish girl gamers would get over the fact that they have vaginas. We really don't care anymore. You don't see many male gamers preening on webcam and blogging to the world about the presence of dangly bits between their legs, now do you?

Seriously. If your boobies are so important that you have to make whole gaming clans devoted to owners of similar fleshbags, couldn't you at least let us take a peek?

I'm a girl too, as you may have guessed from my username, but I don't go around pretending that the whole internets are against me. As far as I'm concerned, I'm a gamer, and the ONLY time my gender becomes an issue is when OTHER GIRLS make it one.

So shut up, get back to the kitchen, and let me game in peace ;)

Its not that gamer girls have any attention problems, its just girls in general. Any area in life, there are always girls wanting to get as much attention as possible. But now that gaming is becoming larger and more "acceptable" there is going to be a better mix between male and female, i am sure eventually it will be close to a 50/50 mix. And even then there will be girl gamers that gets lots of attention because they have boobs. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Good looking females with boobs and a vagina get an A+ in my book.

Big publicity stunt per usual with Ms.Becky. She's attracted to the camera, just watch some of her other videos.

The fact that girls game is over, and Lezbro is right, many girls are milking it and getting jobs because they are girls that game. As of right now, it's easier for a woman to get into the industry than a man, let's not fool ourselves here.

As for the PMS members in here, your the fakest of the fake, so GTFO.

Even if she likes the camera, so what? A lot of people like the camera. There are females that get popular for doing a lot less than playing games. Its a legitimate things. Gaming is becoming a bigger thing all the time and its something a lot of people have in common. So like anything other thing in life, there are going to be hot girls.

Do you really think I care if you call me fake... I am in PMS yes and I am there because it is a place where I can set up games with other girls and have fun. If I'm playing some ranked Gears and I keep getting matched up with a bunch of assholes I always have some unranked matches with my PMS girls to save the day. I would personally love it if I could go into a game and not have anyone think twice or ask me stupid questios because I am a female. I play games to have fun thats it end of story.

That was long...but i listened to all of it...some valid points, some repeated things...she should have thrown in crazy dissolves and harcore music and then some footage of her owning some noob. Would have made it a bit more exciting, but otherwise it was ok...

It just seems like whenever i play with a girl, they dont like to speak up and say they are a girl, because they know all the guys will freak out...so to prevent that, they dont speak up...and it creates a vicious cycle where whenever a guy hears a girl talk, they freak out, so the girl goes into a solitude of quietness.

I see a girl, shes beautiful, i find out she plays games...Does it make her more beautiful? No, it just makes me happy we have something in common. I see a guy, i find out he plays games, sweet, lets play sometime...its all the same.

Also, PMS Hearbreakr, id send you a friend request on XBL but i dont want it to seem like im the guy just adding you because your a girl. Ill add anyone who has the same games as me. Not to mention your friends list is probably full. So if you want to play, send me a friend request.
