GFW LIVE not going down without a fight, nabs Batman: Arkham Asylum photo

Earlier this morning, we received a news tip via carrier pigeon. Nothing too out of the ordinary, at least in comparison to some of the insanity that takes place at this fine establishment. But what really got me interested was the tip's opening statement.

I'm paraphrasing here, but it essentially amounted to "you guys cover anything and everything related to Steam, so why not give Games for Windows a chance too?" You know what? The guy has a strong point, which leads us to the meat of this post.

Batman: Arkham Asylum is going to be a Games for Windows LIVE title. That means achievements, and uh ... I'm not entirely sure what else. But props to the GFW LIVE team for securing another title, because lord only knows they need it after getting the absurd amount of flack they currently do.

Some people are complaining about GFWL in DoW2, but I don't mind it. I like getting achievements. If there's one thing we can all learn about life, people will bitch about anything and everything.

What's the problem with GFW? Isn't it free?

Ass. Ass ass ass.

You know it's gonna come to Steam anyway. GFWL just makes the package heavier and, frankly, annoying.

The problem for me isn't GFWL. It's games that insist on using BOTH Steam and GFWL, which basically do the same thing except Steam has way more features. Even worse are games like GTA4 that require a third program running to play online.

Is Games for Windows Live REALLY necessary? I mean it's just a quasi-brand that sells games for windows. I mean this is a waste of time.

kjyousuke, in what way?

Over the past 4-5 years I've used and enjoyed Steam, and it gets better every day.

GFWL, on the other hand, reminds me of Xbox Live -- something I've subscribed to on Xbox because of no other choice, but have always found far inferior to PC online gaming. I didn't mind it in Fallout 3, and it's okay in DaW II -- except for matchmaking... another abomination..

PC gamers love steam. It's just everyone is whining at the moment because of Total War.
Windows Live is horrible.

everyone whines at the moment when anything happens at Steam.(what 2 weeks ago DoW2) Always the constant "Valve doesnt do sht for us"

I think the only way PC gamers are happy is when the game is just put out for free everyone can use and hack and cheat and still expect perfect servers up and running forever and official patches on a regular basis.

@otogi

I like how you think everyone shares your opinion. Specially when more and more people have stopped buying retail and only use Steam now. But I guess you and your little buddies represent the entire PC user base and not the 1,374,962 people using Steam at this very moment.

How about the ones NOT bitching, whining, or complaining? So because they don't say anything that automatically means they either don't like it or have no opinion towards it?

GFWL is a cancer to PC gaming. So far, I've had to deal with it on Fallout 3, and the PC version of GTA 4 (in addition to the Rockstar Social Club). I'm not a fan. And the biggest thing I hate is the shifting of boxed expansions/add-ons in favor of DLC for MS points.

Please, stop trying to turn the PC into a console.

GFW is perfectly fine. I love that I get LIVE achievements when I play Dawn of War 2.

It got much much much better. I still prefer STEAM for PC but you can't have ONLY steam, that'd be a monopoly and that's never good.
