Getting to know the New Xbox Experience: Themes and the Friends Channel photo

"Will my current Xbox 360 themes work once the Fall Dashboard Update goes live?" For the hundredth time, yes, they will continue to function (example here).

Or, if you're looking for some variety in your gaming life, the New Xbox Experience will have animated, dynamic themes that change depending on which channel you are currently viewing. While that all sounds cool in theory, I'm not ready to give up my custom Ghosts 'N Goblins theme just yet.

Also discussed in this week's NXE update was the new Friends Channel. Reading text? Talk about boring! You'll now be able to see what your friends are doing based upon their avatar's actions, as seen here.

It's sort of confusing unless you see the channel in motion, so it might be best to reserve judgment until later this November, or whenever the new dash is finally released.

Looks and sounds pretty good. I'm liking the slicker look and the themes make it look about better compared to the drab gray backgrounds they were showing before. They should have been showing these from the get go.

where are they going to put all the advertisements? Maybe they'll make you watch a 15 second commercial whenever you switch between blades...

Who needs a a working menu system when you can have this tween-aimed avatar-slidey stuff?

I am so looking forwards to this.

I still think it looks stupid, and you're right it's kind of impossible to tell what those avatars are doing in static screens.

I'm looking forward to the change because I can still use a blade system if I want. I've been using the dashboard for nearly 3 years now and I'm excited about it being all shiny and new again.

Plus, there are a ton of new features, like the party system, which are sooooooo fucking welcome.
