Get your PlayStation in my Visa: Sony unveils latest PS3 promotion photo

Looking to buy a PlayStation 3 but don’t have the money up front? Well, Sony has the deal for you. Above, you’ll see the brand new PlayStation-brand Visa credit card. It’s a real item that you can use to buy things you can’t afford and then pay massive interest rates on them when the monthly statement comes around. The best part is that if you want the card and a PS3, Sony will give you $150 back from your purchase, given that you go through the proper channels.

The $150 pseudo-rebate starts today and will roll until December 31. One way to initiate the savings is to visit Sony’s official PlayStation credit card site, enroll for the card, and purchase it through the online store. The other way is to just enroll on the Web site and buy one at an “authorized PlayStation retailer.”

If you just want a sleek Visa card stamped with the PlayStation logo, you can do that, too. Apparently, the card also has PlayStation-specific rewards if you like racking up the pretend money. If only I didn’t enjoy it so much.

They did something like this before with all their Sony Products online with a Sony Card that promised $100 off.

I can't believe every retailer and their mother have their own credit card to their companies... but then I see credit as something to avoid unless it can't be helped, unlike a majority of my north american brethrens. >_>

Thanks god youngsters under 18 can't get a Visa for a discount on a PS3, too many wouldn't even know how it works (heck, many adults don't seem to).

@Piellar

The way I see it is I use my Credit card for "everything" from Coffee to food to TV's, then I just make sure I have the money to pay for it.

Then I pay if off at the end of the month which equals 0% interest, which is always awesome. Plus, if you use your debit card a lot with your current bank and rack up charges because you go over your monthly limit a credit card will save you some $$ on your banking fees!

:)

Sony ought to really think about this. I seriously doubt they're bankrolling the CC, much like they don't for the "Sony Card". Citibank just got floated a $300 backing loan today. Chase is one of the few financial institutions that hasn't come up to address their debts and debtors yet, but I really think announcing a new way to get credit cards is not the wisest of investments in a rocky financial industry.

This is nothing new - I was considering applying for this when the MGS4 bundles were about to come out.

Is there such thing as owning too many PS3s?? I like the sound of the PlayStation-specific rewards though. If it's anything like my Scotia Bank Scene card where I've earned 5 free movie passes, I could put the PS rewards to great use. Plus I need a way of buying the DLC for Warhawk :P
