Get your Mother 1+2 fan translation while it's hot photo

Tomato has completed his translation of Mother 1+2 for Game Boy Advance, which should have a good number of you rejoicing. You can read all about the patch, and download it, by going to this page.

The main focus here is Mother 1. Not only has the script been translated in full, but tweaks to things like text boxes, menus, font readability, and more have been made. If there were ever a time to give this game a shot, now would be it.

As for Mother 2, only the menus have been translated, not the script. Tomato says it isn't really worth the tougher-than-you'd-think effort, though it's not entirely out of the question given enough time and/or money.

Tomato is a king among men. His work and AGTP's work are phenomenal and make me excited for what the hacking community can come up with for the future.

Excited beyond words, the Mother 3 translation was beyond amazing. I know what I'm playing this weekend.

I already have a Mother 2 translation. It's called "Earthbound".

What's so tough about swapping the translation from Earthbound in to Mother 2? Good effort for Mother 1, nonetheless.

I love what Tomato does, but what's the draw for playing this instead of EB0 on NES?

Zaxxon, you'll probably find this translation to be much different.

I see they spelled his name "Lloyd" instead of the original spelling of "Loid".

This is one heck of a coincidence though. I JUST bought an english reproduction of mother for my NES.

Wow, why havn't you guys just played Earthbound Zero? It was meant to be the official release of Mother 1 in US after all. It's my fav. JRPG of all time.

This is nice and all, will definitely be playing it soon, but for the love of god why doesn't Nintendo want to license and release this here? For gods sake, they could charge like $60 for a Wii copy of all 3 Mother games and it would sell like mad. I just don't understand why Nintendo thinks it wouldn't sell.

@Budogenkai Because back when the SNES was out they did a really shitty job of advertising an RPG during a time when RPGs really didn't sell that well and it sold poorly. Thus there is no market for it now.

I should try it. I never got to play Earthbound when it came out.

@Rabite

True, but if anything RPG's are more popular now, and the want for a proper Mother release must be higher than it was back then.

@Karutomaru: It's just a translation patch, not a ROM for the game. So, no it's not illegal. To use the patch, you would have to find a ROM for the game on your own, which is technically illegal, although Nintendo of America have really given us no choice if we wish to play the game. So, in my opinion, it's OK.

The first Mother was always too hard for me back when Demiforce translated it as Earthbound Zero.
I don't think the new translation will help much in that department, but I'm willing to give it another go.

@Retrozoa

That'd be because "Lloyd" is how it's meant to be spelt in English. "Loid" or "Roido" is just the phonetics of Japanese Katakana.

Beat Earthbound Zero on a NES emulator with an easy patch. I still had to do grinding >_>
